Chances of catching hsv2

12 days ago I had unprotected sex several times with woman who recently tested positive for hsv2. She had no symptoms or outbreaks when we were together and claims she has never had any symptoms. I read there is roughly a 4% chance I contracted under these circumstances. I have no symptoms on my skin at all. The last several days however, I've had really uncomfortable achey pain around where my bladder is and around base of penis. No itching, just pain. Otherwise, no symptoms.

Any thoughts on chances i have this?  I'm getting an early detection DNA test. Thank you.

we don't do pcr testing on blood for herpes. it's inaccurate since herpes isn't a blood borne virus.  It has some validity in research and in newborns but not in adults.

Thank you. That is very helpful. I understand the risk us below 4%, but do you have any idea what the risk is? There is a pcr test for hsv as well, http://www.m.webmd.com/genital-herpes/herpes-tests?page=2.

the 4%/year means that if you had sex regularly with this partner for a year, you'd only have a 4% risk. your risk is far smaller than that from just a few encounters.

there are no dna based quick detection tests for herpes other than pcr lesion cultures of active symptoms.  are you perhaps confusing hiv testing with herpes testing?

I also meant to ask if the symptoms I mentioned sound anything like hsv2 symptoms 1-2 wks after exposure?
Thanks again

I'm not sure what 4% per yr means compared to a 4% chance of contracting? Can you clarify?
I don't recall the name of the test but the lab claims after 72 hrs after exposure it can detect. It's a type of DNA test and is rather expensive.
Thanks again for your feedback.

the 4% risk is per year.

you had unprotected sex so you should follow up with proper testing at the proper times. you can get tested for chlamydia, gonorrhea, trich and ngu any time after 1 week post encounter. syphilis after 6 weeks. herpes, hiv and hepatitis after 3 months.

what early detection dna test are you talking about?
