Concern for herpes

28 year old male. I had unprotected sex with a new partner 3 weeks ago. Around 3 - 4 days later I had minor burning with urination. Burning began when I started urinating and seemed to get better at the end. Actually, it sort of burned when I was holding it in a little bit to. Almost like it felt good to get it out of urethra. I have no discharge or lesions that I see as of now. The burning has definitely subsided a bit, but is still noticeable. Also, within a week after I had unprotected sex I also seemed like I was sort of getting the flu or I just wasn't feeling right. But, I never had a fever or at least never had one when I checked. I was checked for HIV (negative), Chlymidia (negative), Gonohhrea (negative), and syphilis (negative). UA and Urine culture negative, as well as normal cbc blood test. The pH of my urine was an 8 so that was at the high end of normal.  So, I guess I am concerned for herpes based on the fact I have minor dysuria following unprotected sex that seemingly continues 3 weeks later. Along with the flu like fatigue during that first week (No headache or fever (that I no of)). If it was herpes would I still be having dysuria without lesions? I am sort of obsessing about herpes now. I mean, the symptoms don't really bother me all that much I just worry about what it is... Please help with any answers

it would've healed by now. it also would've been painful or itchy if it was herpes.

Sorry. One more question. I guess I did not think much of this. But, around 2 weeks ago I discovered something on my scrotum. It sort of looks like an ingrown hair, but there is no hair growing out of it.

My question is, if this was herpes, would it have ulcerated by now? Or is it possible that some herpes lesions don't ulcerate as fast. There is no pain, no itching, no redness. The only way I knew it was there was by self examination.

Thanks for you help in advance

if symptoms aren't better after finishing the antibiotics, return to be seen again but definitely time to stop thinking herpes as a cause of your symptoms.

Lol.

I guess I will just get the IgG blood test again in 3 to 4 months and see what happens. There is nothing I really can do about it now. Hopefully the burning goes away soon

I think you have herpes on the brain at this point. No reason to think your symptoms are herpes related.

So, I still have slight burning during the beginning of urination at the tip which eases after the flow starts. This has now been going on for around 3 weeks. It began 3-4 days post unprotected sex and oral sex with new partner. Is it possible that I could still have herpes lesions in my urethra after 3 weeks? I still do not see any lesions that would signal herpes externally. Sorry, I guess I am freaking out still. Wish there was just a blood test I could take for herpes right now.

My Doctor put me on doxicycline 2 pills a day for 7 days, but I do not think this is helping all that much.

this doesn't sound like herpes. no need to further irritate things with an urethral swab.

even if this did sound like herpes, far too late for swabbing to give you answers anyways.  they need done within 72 hours of symptoms.

Yeah, I will have to make an appointment with my doctor again. He seemed to think that the PSA would be elevated with prostatitis. Or maybe he was just trying to lessen my anxiety by ordering it. Idk.

Should I get a urethra swab as well or is that pointless without discharge or any external genital lesions?

Thanks for info

we don't check psa levels to check for prostate infections. that was a waste of your time and money. that is why I recommended the manual exam.

No STD causes prostatitis.

One last question. Do you think this could be prostatitis? I did get my PSA checked because I also wondered about this as I do drive 2 hours a day to and from work. But, the PSA was negative. However, they did not check my prostate because of my age.

Can an STD cause Prostatitis?

herpes lesions inside the urethra hurt like heck. nothing you'd ever describe as only burning during urination.

I'd make an appointment for this coming week and be seen again. a manual check of your prostate to check for swelling is also a good idea as well as repeating your urine testing.

Thanks for the quick response.

Testing was done 11 days post encounter. The only thing they didn't check for was herpes because of no lesions. I did get a negative blood test for herpes 1 and 2 but know that mean nothing right now. They did not swab my urethra either

I am still having symptoms today, but just the dysuria which is very minor and even more minor than when it first began. Still have no discharge of any sort that I can see.

Can you have dysuria with herpes and no lesions externally?

odds are this isn't herpes causing this. typically you'd have obvious lesions along with the pain.

how long after the encounter was your testing done?

are you still having symptoms or are they gone?
