Could this be Con't Outbreak?

Grace,

I have a question, I just value your opinion.  I know that you cannot diagnose this and I have made an appointment with my OB/Gyn for next week.  A few weeks ago I asked you about this continuous itching and soreness that I was having.  I was seen and I believe misdiagnosed the first time for a BV infection.  The itching and soreness had lasted about 3-4 weeks.  I started antibiotics, in which the itching and soreness stopped.  During that time, since I was unsure if it was an outbreak, I doubled up on my Valtrex.  I never miss a dose of that med!  With about two more doses of the antibiotics, the itching and soreness is starting again.  This is so frustrating!  When I called to make the appointment to my Dr. He said "it may be a OB".  I have no visable signs of an OB, just the pain and itching!
Since I am on the Valtrex 1g daily, what do you think my chances are that this is an OB?  I know Valtrex is a good med, but maybe it is not working for me.  I just feel as though my Dr. really didnt take the time to think it through and just blurted out "it's an OB!"
Thank you.

It's probably not herpes related. I'd still abstain from sex though until you figure out what is going on.  You two will be soduko champs until you are finally seen eh? :(

Hello grace,
I am taking your advice and seeking another OB/GYN. I have an appointment in a few weeks.

The itching is still there.. It is driving me insane!  Psycologically it is making me crazy!  I keep checking things out in the mirror..Nothing on the outside.

Do you think there could be some lesions inside the vagina?  Could the stress that I am having over all of this cause an OB to last this long, even taking the daily Valtrex?

I am going crazy and needless to say it is starting to affect the intimate relationship with my boyfriend.

Thank you.

I don't think this is all herpes either. If you aren't satisfied withyour current provider, seek out the services of a different ob/gyn. At least they threw the right meds at you this time.

I'd ask for an endocervical culture to be done.  Its where they swab inside of the vagina, send it off to the lab, and see what grows.  They can also do what's called a sensitivity test, to see what meds will cure it.

I hope you are well.

I sent an inquiry on Aug.29 regarding itching and soreness around my vagina.  I have seen my provider, been on Keflex and Flagyl, taken 1 diflucan (for yeast).  They all seemed to help for a few days..then it starts to "flare up" again.

I am so over this!  When I initially talked with my doctor about this he just whipped out his prescription pad and wrote my refill on my Valtrex and said, "It's probably just the herpes."

In your opinion, could it be my herpes for this long?
I am continuing the Valtrex, and honestly lately I have been taking a little more than my regular dose of 1g daily.  I may just be paranoid.
I do not have any obvious lesions or bumps.  Just the soreness, occasional redness, and this insane itching!

Do you think the Valtrex is working?

I went for the last 10-15 years in my miserable marriage to the man who gave me herpes without any intamacy, with maybe 2-3 outbreaks (that I was aware of) the entire time.
Now I have found someone I care about, we have a great intimate relationship, this is so stressfull!

Could it just be the physical adjustments to a new relationship?

I am just so frustrated..I feel my doctor just casually treated me..and then pushed the blame of my symptoms on the herpes.. I don't think that it is the herpes.  Thanks for your input.

Hsv1 doesn't give you any significant protection against hsv2.

If you have hsv1 orally and then contract hsv2, chances are good you'll have a much milder initial infection with hsv2.

Hsv2 provides protection against contracting hsv1 but we aren't sure how much and for how long or anything like that.

and yes - you are getting the hang of what we mean by posting in the same thread :) thank you very much :)

Is this on the same "thread"?  I hope so.  I have another question regarding HSV1.

If someone has HSV1 (orally), do they have some immunity to HSV2.  I know the viruses are structured somewhat the same.

If someone with HSV1 contracted HSV2, would the symptoms be less severe.

Also, since I am HSV2 positive, are my chances of getting HSV1 lesser?

Thank you.

Definitely you need something better than keflex unless it was a skin infection and not a bacterial vaginosis.

Keflex isn't the best treatment for bv.  If you had group b strep, it would help, but you need flagyl, clindesse or something similar.

I am so sorry about the posting issue..I hate to admit it, but I am sure that you already know, I am not very computer literate!  I thought they were going on the same "thread"...Sorry!  You must have some seriously aggressive doggies!!

Yes, I did treat my BV.  They gave me Keflex 500mg BID for about 14 days.

The itching is better, but it is still there.  It seems to jump around to different areas..not typical of OB..or so I don't think, just not sure.
Thanks..again..sorry.

*tap, tap, tap* didn't I already ask you in your last thread about this to just keep adding to the same thread with all your questions? Don't even make me send my dogs to your house for a week as punishment my dear!!!  Trust me - you don't want me to do that!!!

Did you ever treat your bv?
