Could this be Herpes?

Last Saturday (6 days ago) I had protected sex and unprotected sex with a girl that I had been a multiple dates with.  When I was leaving I noticed a small bump on her lip that looked like the remnants of a fat lip (on the edge of her lower lip).  She was explained to me that it was a result of falling and hitting her lip, and that was all that was left of the bump.  Two days later, I noticed a small bump (2-3MM swelling) on the right side of my lower lip, but with no redness, no sore, no pain, no puss, nothing outside of a bump.  The bump is slightly lighter in color in the middle.  I am in general a pretty paranoid person, and have been freaking out about it since.  Whenever I eat hot food, the bump swells a little, and within an hour goes back down to only noticeable by me.  The bump (as I call it) is soft to the touch, and feel like normal lip, but is still noticeable well at least by me.

Could this be herpes?  I have no other symptoms, but am freaking out.  I always have very chapped lips in the winter, and am hoping that is what is causing the small bump/swelling.  It's been 4 days since I noticed it, and it hasn't gone away.  Recently it's been somewhat irritated but still has the same appearance, I think it's just from me poking at it yesterday.  This could very well be my OCD, but it's scaring me because of the bump on my partners lip and the fact that mine still swells and hasn't healed yet.

Sorry, I also meant to ask.  How quickly or slowly will a cold sore form?  I've had this bump for a few days now, but it hasn't gotten red, painful, or turned into an actual blister.  Are there some reactions that take a few days to turn into a sore?

Grace,

I set up an appointment with a dermatologist next week. But does what I described sound atypical of herpes?  Wouldn't the blister typically have burst shortly after appearing?  Judging by what I described and the lack of other symptoms, what would your inclination be?

Thanks again.

Best thing you can do is be seen if you are concerned.  We'd totally just be guessing.

Correction in the first sentence - protected sex and unprotected ORAL sex.  I left out a word.
