Worried about Herpes 2 after one encounter.

Hello,

I'm a young adult male. This past weekend on Saturday night I had a sexual encounter which was primarily protected with about 40 seconds of stupid unprotected intercourse. I spoke with the partner after who told me she was clean. I did not feel 100% the following days, but I attributed that to the heavy drinking.

The following night (Sunday) I noticed very occasional itching around my penis. This was soon replaced on Monday and Tuesday with a burning/pinching sensation only at the head of the penis -almost like I put a small dab of IcyHot on, but very mild. I still get the occasional itch, but only when I am clothed and walking around. Starting Monday as well, I have a more frequent need to urinate, but do not notice any significant burning when urinating. As of now, there is no discharge or visible lesions. I also have lower back pain when sitting and the occasional muscle aches in my legs but not buttocks. I also woke up drenched in sweat last night. I do not know what to look for in my groin lymph nodes, but pressing down on the general area does not yield any pain or tenderness.

I'm looking for some insight or thoughts as to whether this could be herpes and if these symptoms are common before a first outbreak/ is an outbreak likely in the coming days. On recommendation, I am seeing a healthcare provider tomorrow, but I know it is too early for testing. Is there anything to ease my worries? I have been reading the forums for hours upon hours.

Thank you so much in advance.

In my experience, they are not part of a primary outbreak. Is it possible? Probably but I have not encountered this in my travels. I wouldn't worry about tingling or an itch.. Most of what you describe is stress and focus related. That I would bet the house on.
The only thing you need to be on look for is lesions. Knowing what I know I wouldn't even be on the lookout for that. Your odds are extremely low.

Happy Friday to you FeelingUndone!

Just wanted to stop in with a follow up and update.

So I went to my primary care physician yesterday and she really just gave me the STD blood/urine tests and sent me on my way. She checked my lymph nodes and said they were normal.

So here's where I'm at now. Still no lesions and the tingling/urination frequency/back pains have almost completely subsided to normal levels. Today I have a sore throat though and when I took a look at my tonsils, I saw some white patches (I get this alot and usually gargling apple cider vinegar makes it go away) similar to what you see with Strep throat. So I'm inclined to believe that this throat issue is what was causing my fatigue and the anxiety causing the genital sensations.

So my question to you now is: does genital herpes ever result in this kind of tonsil inflammation and white splotches (not bumps/blisters)?

Again, I really want to thank you for sticking around and answering questions. I hope this is my last one before you get annoyed of my paranoia!! :x
No. You would not have any throat issues with a genital infection.
You can ask as many questions as you like. Lol

These are not symptoms of a primary outbreak. When a primary outbreak occurs some of what you describe could be hsv but not in the absence of lesions. A slight itch or burn, back pain etc... are not uncommon when people are focused on the genitals and under stress.
I have dealt with many guys who have your textbook symptoms after a sexual episode they either regret or can't stop thinking about the risk.you know what they all have in common? No std was the cause.
Now your odds of contracting hsv (if she was positive) is so very low. Any single unprotected sexual exposure with a known positive partner has about 1 in a 1000 chance of spreading the virus to you. Add your very brief unprotected sex, then the use of a condom your odds went way down. So low you shouldn't be concerned. Most folks who are at risk for hsv are in a relationship with a positive partner.

Hi Feelingundone,

Thanks for your reply. I was wondering if you could tell me what you know about the prodromal symptoms.

1) Do you think it's typical for me to be displaying these symptoms for this many days without any lesions? Would they only occur concurrently with outbreak?

2) I've read elsewhere that prodromal symptoms do not occur with first outbreak and other sources that say it can occur with first outbreak. What's your experience in this?

3) Are there any other major things I should be looking out for besides lesions in the coming days?

I'm trying my best to relax, but I am a huge worrier and it's very hard to let go with all of these symptoms. I very much want to put this behind me and can't imagine having to wait weeks for a conclusive evidence as its already affecting every aspect of my life.

Again thanks so much for taking the time to speak to me.
