Just as a fyi - females shouldn't use talc powders genitally. Use cornstarch based powders instead. There are some links between cancer and talc.

Yes anything that is not highly perfumed is fine :) a medicated element would probably be more soothing.

On the whole talc powder suggestion.. would something like Gold Bond Medicated powder be okay to keep the area dry? Or does the medicated element of the powder inhibit the sore from healing?
A glass of wine ( for medicinal purposes ) also helps when soaking in the tubby :)

I'm glad to hear it's starting to back off now .....
A week is about average I'm sure you'll find as time goes on your outbreaks won't be as bad as this first one ....

The sores are getting better already. I tried the fan idea last night.. it seemed to help keep things dry. They aren't gone yet but they definitely are healing quickly. This is my first outbreak and it seems like its been going on for just over a week. I think the bathing frequently helps (I've been doing that for several days).
Thanks for the tips. This is a good resource.
I personally don't believe in any of that stuff I have only ever found it to be costly with little or no real effect on the healing process,I don't think anything can beat plain simple good hygiene with maybe a little unperfumed talc to keep the area dry .... it's really whatever works best for yourself,Herpes is little more than a skin condition and should not affect anything you would normally do as far as excercise is concerned.
Since this is your first outbreak it will probably be the worst one you will experience.

Have you seen your provider and been properly tested and typed? Did they give you any herpes antivirals?
Topicals don't really do much to speed healing. Some are helpful for pain control. Herpecin is for cold sores, not genital herpes though it wouldn't hurt to use it on the genital area from what I can see from its ingredients. I recommend saving your money though and instead steep a tea bag ( yes a regular ole black pekoe tea bag ) and when it's cooled, use it as a compress. Repeat this several times a day as needed. The tannic acid in the tea helps to dry out the lesions as well as helps to reduce pain and swelling.
yes you can continue working out when you have ob's. You might find it comforting to powder your genital area before working out to reduce friction and irritation .
The herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com is a terrific resource for more info.
