I have had genital herpes for a few years. I have been extremely cautious about avoiding intimate contact with a female when I feel tingles or show signs of an outbreak. I have been fortunate, as my outbreaks are very small with usually only one or two blisters. However, sometimes the symptoms of an impending outbreak are hard to notice. I have been concerned about receiving oral sex from a female partner with the chance she may contract herpes. I do know that she has never performed oral sex during an outbreak or sore. However, I cannot say for certain if I had symptoms while I received oral sex. The relationship has not developed to the point I feel comfortable about mentioning I have herpes since intercourse has been extremely limited and with protection.
What is the likelihood a partner could contract herpes through oral sex if I do not have blisters or sores? If a partner did contract herpes, would herpes only spread to her mouth? How soon after contact would a partner detect they have contracted herpes and would it be obvious?
