Genital Type One Herpes Transmission

8 years ago I caught type one genital herpes from my boyfriend at the time who performed oral sex on me, while he had a cold sore.  I was about 26 at the time.  Up until that point I had never had any cold sores, ever, which is why when I had my first outbreak it hit me hard, very hard.  The thing is though, I have never had another outbreak, 8 years later and I'm still waiting for it to happened.  Nothing, nada, zilch.  I have had boyfriends since that I have told, and most were accepting, and we always used condoms.  I have never met anyone until now that I want to progress to the next level with, that being without condoms.   So I guess my real question is 8 years after the initial and only outbreak of type one genital herpes, what is the likelihood of transmitting it on to my partner during unprotected sex.

I also have type 1 genital herpes and I've had it for 9 years and got it the same way. I have not had any outbreaks since and I also have been in a serious relationship with my bf for almost 8 years. We always have unprotected sex and he still has not gotten it. I had him get tested for it. Maybe its just luck but I think that the chances of giving it to another person is pretty slim if u never have outbreaks yourself. This is just what I believe based upon my own experiences.

I think you have misunderstood the information you read. I believe the info you posted is actually the stats for recurrences.

genital hsv1 infections are quite common. It's the overall cause of 30% of all newly acquired genital herpes infections. In the under 30 crowd, it's the cause of 70% of them.

According to some information I've come across on this website, Genital HSV-1 infections are quite uncommon. Only 15% of people with genital herpes actually have it caused by HSV-1. The other 85% is HSV-2.

I'm not an expert either, but I definitely don't think that your partner will "probably get it eventually since its just a matter of time"...

Well, I'm no expert, just another forum browser. HSV type 1 is oral herpes. So you're saying you have HSV type 1 on your genital area, which can happen. Usually people with strong immune systems have less outbreaks. As for transmitting I don't know the %. But he will probably get it eventually since it's just a matter of time going unprotected.
