HSV-1 Genital Healing problems

I have been diagnosed with HSV-1 genital recently. Before hand I used hydrocortisone  on the red areas thinking they were just raw spots from friction. I continued to have sex with my girlfriend which probably did not help either. After being diagnosed I told her it was HSV-1 and that we had to stop having sex until the sores were gone. After 10 days of taking valtrex 4 pills a day the sores haven't gone away. They scab over like they're going to heal then the scabs fall off and leave a very very red spot, Then it just starts over it starts to scab again and never fully heals. I've tried keeping them dry, I have tried putting neosporin on the spots trying to get it to heal, I have tried hydrogen peroxide but nothing works to heal these spots all the way. Its been almost 2 months now and I want my sex life back PLEASE someone help me.

Well I went to a doctor today, and he referred me to a urologist because he says its genital warts! I'm really starting to get tired of the run around with these doctors because how can it be genital warts when there is no warts! its just smooth red patches with scabs on them that fall off and scab back up again.. please someone shed some light on this situation I am reaching the end of my rope.

this isn't likely to still be herpes going on. It could be your first recurrence but odds are you have something else further complicating things. Go and be seen and get these properly looked at and some further testing done.

stop back and let us know how your appointment went :)

neosporin isn't recommended to be used in the genital area. It can be very irritating in the genital area.

Topical steroid creams are too strong for the genital area in the otc strengths. They also cause herpes to be more active.

peroxide is non-chlorine bleach. It shouldn't be used on the genital area either.

Odds are this is healing skin that just needs time and less irritation to heal. If you feel the need to put anything on it, use a barrier cream like a&d, desitin or aquaphor - soothes the skin as well as protects it from irritation while it heals.

did your partner get tested to know her status?
