HSV-1 and Joint Pain
has anyone experienced joint pain as a result of an oral HSV-1 outbreak?
I assume that's sarcasm? lol

well... it turns out I might have lyme disease-- circular rash on my hip with joint pain... what an awesome world!!!!

Switch to acyclovir to treat ob's and see if that's more tolerable for you. This would be an extreme reaction to valtrex if that's the cause - the aches and pains it can cause wouldn't be as bad as you've described and showing up 2 days after the last dose would also be unusual. Should you get a recurrence of your pain, see your provider immediately for further work up. It could just be a coincidence that this all went on at the same time but try the acyclovir instead next time and see if you do better on that.

here's the deal, I think... my doc prescribed Valtrex (2 doses of 500mg each)... I did some research and discovered that one of the side effects for some people is joint pain... I started experiencing some pain about 2 days after the last dose... then flat out couldn't walk without extreme pain on the 3rd day... it is now the 5th day and I'm getting better... as I understand it, Valtrex can linger in the body around 96 or so hours (4 days)... so, I'm pretty sure this explains it... wow, it was pretty horrible...
Is this your first cold sore or just a recurrence of a previously acquired oral herpes infection?

I am very interested in this Post,as I actually developed RA about a year after I was diagnosed with HSV2 I asked my Doctor if there was any connection and he said "possibly" but took my question no further.
Only last night I decided to look on the Net for some info and came across a Site that indeed said there may well be a connection between HSV and Joint pain
I read it to mean that although most people with HSV may not have any other problems there is a % who have encountered other health issues that may be linked to the HSV virus's activity internally one of which was Joint Pain and indeed RA.

Hi nic - Why do you think it's your hsv1 that's causing your RA? Are you sure it's RA and not something else that's causing your pain? I don't mean to discount any of your pain or experiences, but there are a lot of things that cause pain, and I just want to make sure you aren't missing anything by focusing on herpes instead of something else.
Herpes causing RA can happen, but it's thought to be rare, so make sure you aren't missing another cause.
Also, it doesn't look like daisy has been on the site since 2011. I hope she responds, though. :)
