Mysterious prolonged herpes outbreak?

Hey,

When I was a kid, I got an oral herpes blister every now and then on my upper lip. Then, nothing for years until last February. I was under a lot of stress and had a flu, boom, a small blister again on my upper lip. Had that ticking feeling and irritating sensation. Here's where I think I might have made an error; instead of using your regular anti-viral balm, I put some garlic on it (a friend suggested it as I didn't have balm at hand and the pharmacy was closed). Stupid, I know, but I didn't think much of it. Somehow the blister just didn't seem like it "developed" fully. Didn't get very big or full of fluid.

The problem is that my lip still has somekind of a sore/red spot on it even after months and months! The size varies from time to time (is fine for a long time then suddenly gets bigger). Sometimes it feels tingly, sometimes it feels like its ticking and sometimes I can feel my pulse. It really bothered me so I went to see a doctor. She prescribed me an anti-viral regime which did absolutely nothing. Today to my astonishment I noticed a small blister full of fluid below my lower lip and popped it. Some clear fluid came out. I'm totally baffled by this as I've never had any herpes at that spot and it didn't make that "ticking" feeling at all.

Does anyone have the slightest idea what is going on? Is this even herpes or is it something else? Thank you in advance.

nope, it doesn't linger on like this. odds are what is left, isn't oral herpes at this point.  probably a decent moisturizer on a regular basis will work as good as anything else at this point.

Really? The doctor I went to see was actually a  dermatologist and she just said the virus might be lingering on... Thank you very much for your answer Grace, I will have to consult another doctor. I'm thinking this one just wanted to get rid of me quickly. :P

herpes lesions won't hang around this long.  antivirals at this point were a waste of money.

at this point a dermatologist is probably a good follow up.
