HSV-1

Ok, so I was recently diagnosed with genital HSV-1 and have a few questions.  I've been doing some research and found the the time between exposure and initial out break is generally 2-20 days.  My initial out break was ~ 1 week after having oral sex with a new partner who has no history of cold sores or HSV-1 to their knowledge (asymptomatic but never tested); however, they're VERY recent ex DOES.  I myself have an ex boyfriend who got cold sores, but we were always fairly careful and I haven't had any sexual contact with him in almost 2 years.  Is there any possibility that I was exposed by my ex?  I haven't seen anything about such a delayed initial outbreak, and I'm positive that I have never had symptoms like this before.

Also, for future reference, I've heard that if any future partners of mine have a history of HSV-1 (oral or genital), the likelihood of me re-infecting them in a different location is almost un-heard of.  Is this true? Would it matter if they had ever had a sore or not, or would a positive blood test be reassurance enough?

Thank you thank you thank you to anyone who can help me with some information or resources.

well certainly he needs tested to see what his status is at this point.

yes you can just have 1 lesion with an initial ob but same goes with recurrences.

I only had one small lesion (maybe diameter of pencil) that hurt like the dickens, but I also had a yeast infection present about 3 days before I noticed it which I heard can be common with an initial outbreak, and slightly swollen lymph nodes in my groin area.  Would these symptoms lead you to believe initial outbreak? I would hate to make my most recent partner feel guilty about transmitting it to me if he didn't.  He took it very hard since he's completely symptomatic.

the timeline matches up with this coming from your most recent partner. If you had more than 1 herpes lesion with your ob, odds are it was a newly acquired infection and not a recurrence.

yes, if a partner also has hsv1, regardless of location, it's not likely they'd contract hsv1 genitally from you. always err on the side of caution and avoid sex when you have genital symptoms.

keep asking questions!
