well at this point it's hard to tell . about 1/2 of folks with newly acquired infections will test + within 2-3 weeks of being infected.

Ok so if it turns up positive so soon then would it likely be an old infection?
you need to wait 3 or 4 months after the encounter for the blood test .
you know you have genital herpes. a negative blood test now only means that it's a recently acquired infection.

Thanks for responding. How long should I have waited? I went to my regular doctor the next week(last week) which was 2 1/2 weeks after possible exposure and 1 1/2 after the sore spot developed. I hope to get my results today, fingers crossed and lots of praying that its negative.
they should be able to type it with dfa but obviously they didn't.
nothing to do now but follow up with blood testing later on.
