well then that's the next step. you getting tested was only half of the picture.
was he tested to know his own hsv2 status too?
i got tested because my boyfriend had a few red bumps at the base of his penis and we have been exclusive for 8 months. and he was married 9 years prior to being intimate with me. so he was scared, so i got tested. he already told me that he got cold sores on his mouth and i knew that was herpes, but when the bumps appeared on his penis we both got scared, ive been tested before but never tested positive. and ive had cold sores before but its been years and i've never had anything weird happen down there and still havent.
your hsv2 is negative.
why did you get tested?
how long prior to getting tested had you last had sex?
grace
so according to my test results do I have HSV 2?
The chances of you spreading your oral herpes to your genitals is very rare. Autoinnoculation is not common, but when it does happen it's during the primary outbreak. If it were that easy to transmit to our other body parts, most of us with oral herpes would also have it genitally.
Your doctor is very misinformed about HSV, and about the IGM - it's not a valid herpes test especially combined, when you already know you have HSV1. Your IgG is what to go by. So long as it's been 3-4 months post-encounter, then you know it's an accurate test.
HSV1 and HSV2 are two different herpes viruses. HSV2 is most commonly genital, HSV1 oral. However, you can have either orally or genitally. I have genital HSV1 as my partner performed oral sex on me (he has oral HSV1).

my doctor also said that the third test-IGM says that I was exposed to BOTH HSV 1 & HSV 2 within the last six months....how do they know I was exposed to BOTH and not one or the other? It doesn't make sense to me. She also said that they ARE THE SAME virus, just in a different place., which ALSO does NOT make sense to me.
Yes it is possible to spread HSV 1 to the genital!
1. If your sex partner has HSV 1 on mouth and he/she play oral sex on your genital
2.He/she has HSV 1 on genital and you have sexual intercourse with them.
