Good afternoon.  I was wondering if you could help me out with this.  I am currently 24 wks pregnant and about 2wks ago I had blood work done for Herpes Simplex Virus 1&2 IGG due to a sore in my vaginal area.  I have had no fevers or any other symptoms.  I have been trying to get a hold of my doctors office and no response.  May you please tell me if I test positive for either virus and what does it mean.

This discussion is related to HSV 2 False positive???.

if your provider isn't sure if this was herpes or a wart, a 2nd opinion from a different obgyn in the clinic or seeing a dermatologist would be a good idea. since you are pregnant, you need accurate answers and you need them sooner rather than later.  your partner also should seek out his own testing to know his own status too.

it is really important that your boyfriend gets tested asap to see what his status is.

So what would you suggest be the next step?  Should I have another test done?

too late now for a lesion culture - they need done within 48 hours of the appearance of the lesion. if they had done one at the time you were seen , it might've helped to confirm if you had genital herpes as well as if it was hsv1 or hsv2.

Hi thank you for responding so quickly!!
So Hsv 2 is negative.  That's a good thing, right?

They tested me for blood work because they found the lesion.  The doctor thought it might be a genital wart, but wasn't sure.
Should I ask my doctor to run a lesion culture?  Will that verify better results?

No, my boyfriend has never been tested, but has had fever blisters a number of times.  I asked him to get himself checked out.  He will be.

you tested + for hsv1 as most adults do. typically it's an oral herpes infection whether you can recall any obvious cold sores or not.   http://www.ashastd.org/std-sti-works/Herpes/oral-herpes.html  has terrific info on oral herpes for more reading.

your hsv2 is negative.

has your partner been tested yet to know their status? since you had an obvious lesion in the genital area, your partner getting tested is important in case this is a newly acquired hsv2 infection for you.

did they do a lesion culture on your sore when you had it?
