HSV on the Hand?

Hi, a year and a half ago I was diagnosed with having HSV. It started as a tingling annoying sensation on the my left hand, the back of my palm slightly above the wrist. It soon developed tiny raised bumps then to vesicles. I went to see a doctor. The doctor's nurse says it might be shingles, but the doctor diagnosed it as HSV-1 right in front, no testings. He prescribed me Valtrex and an ointment. It left me a scar on that hand. Which herpes virus infection leaves a scar? Both HSV-1 and Shingles? Since then, it hasn't recurred anywhere on my body. I wasn't tested for antibodies. I just want to know if this is really either HSV-1 or shingles, since for what i know, the location of the blister is unusual? By the way, I worked at a laboratory company, handling those fill-up forms used for lab testing (i.e. drug test, std test, hiv test)

Hi Dasiy,

Thanks for replying. No, I don't participate on any such sports. I don't remember either that I came into contact with poison ivy, so that's not an option. I was thinking of that HSV-1 transmitted via skin to skin contact but I cant remember from where though. Since I'm a righty most likely my right hand should be the one to contract it... Or I'm just plain lucky... I'm bewildered, it's still unclear for me...

Do you particpate in any Sports that would involve fairly aggresive skin to skin contact like Rugby or Karate or similar?
It's not typical of Shingles to present on the hand, nor would handling paperwork  transmit an STD.
