HSV1 from kiss on cheek

Hi there,

Recent IgG blood tests have shown that I'm negative for HSV1 and HSV2. I went on a date last night with a guy who gave me a wet sloppy kiss on my cheek, and also playfully gave sympathy kisses to these mosquito bites I had on my arm. He didn't have an active cold sore at the time, at least not that I noticed. I'm not sure if he even gets cold sores, but I don't want to ask him at this point. Is what I described a risk at all for contracting HSV1? We never kissed on the mouth or anything of the sort, and I had no visible cuts/scrapes/acne on my cheek, but I did have the bug bites on my arm. Could the virus have entered in through the bug bites via his saliva and infect me?

HI Grace,

I have one final question. About 2 days after this incident, I developed a sore throat, nasal congestion with bright yellow mucus, headache, and a low grade (100 degree F) fever. The sore throat disappeared within 24 hours, but I still have the mild fever and congestion. Are these signs of a developing herpes infection at all, or is it more likely I just caught an upper respiratory infection?

those are cold and flu symptoms, not std symptoms.

Thanks grace. My nose is still really stuffy and I noticed last night that I had this whitish yellow bubble on the back of my throat. I scraped it off, but it came back and I scraped it off again and it had a sticky consistency... Almost like pus. Can HSV vesicles be scraped off like this?
