HSV2 in middle of back

I hope someone can give me an answer for my question because I have been looking all over the web with no help. I have read several books and literature on HSV2 after I was diagnosed. My outbreaks are in the middle of my back and no where else. I was misdiagnosed with Shingles when this first occurred. My question is this, since my outbreaks are on my back does this mean that I shed only from that area or am I still shedding vaginally as well? I take Valtrex daily as well.

yes, you are still periodically shedding the virus from the anal/genital area too.  you only shed from the area of the lesions during obvious lesions.

do you have a regular partner?

did you  have a + lesion culture for hsv2 from the rash ?

Yes it is. I was having outbreaks on my back almost every month, in March I had an OB and then as it cleared up another one came on so I went to the doctor and asked for Valtrex which has helped me tremendously. I haven't had an OB since March.
Thank you for all of your responses they have been very helpful. And I am relieved to know that my daughter more than likely doesn't have it because she was very healthy at birth and after.

we don't test children routinely for herpes. we don't have blood tests that are accurate until they reach the age of 14.

if your child had contracted hsv2 from you during birth, she would've been obviously ill soon afterwards and required hospitalization.

if your hsv2 was over 5, no need to post the actual results. not a false positive and you already know from the culture it's herpes even though they didn't type it for you at the time. good info to know!

is the valtrex keeping recurrences few and far between for you?

Also I take Valtrex every day, 500mg which keeps the rash/lesions on my back away.

Thank you Grace for your answers. I don't have my test results with me at the moment but my HSV2 came back 9. something (high) and my HSV1 came back below 0.9. negative. I took the blood test last year around March. I do have another question, I had my daughter in 2008 and since I am thinking Ive had the HSV2 virus since 2003 but never knew it. What are the chances that I passed it to my daughter? Should I go have a blood test done on her?

I'd err on the side of caution and try to get a lesion culture too just to know for sure that this is hsv2 causing your rash.

I will gladly take a look at your blood test results too if you want to post them here - e.g. hsv1 igg 5.4 and hsv2 igg 5.0 or whatever they are.

when you start to date again, make sure tha tyour partner gets tested to know their status. you can consider daily suppressive therapy to help reduce recurrences so you have less disruptions to your sex life as well as to help lower the risk of transmission to a partner.

keep asking questions :)

I had a swab test back in 2003 when they first appeared, it came back as herpes but they never said what strain. So now that
I test positive on the blood test for HSV2 and Ive done a lot of research and haven't had any lesions on my genitals, my back is the only place with the recurrent shingles (as I was told that's what it is because you cant get herpes std on your back, this is what I was told in 2003). So this is why im questioning if it is just on my back am I still shedding from genital area.
