Scrape or herpes

Hi all,

I am a female that had unprotected sex with a man 5 months ago. He said he was clean. Two weeks later I started having itching and pain in my vulva but the skin looked normal. The itching and pain occurred in multiple places but theses places were consistent. The itching and pain moved around between these spots L & R side. I got tested for the gamut of STIs and was treated for a yeast infection, bacterial infection and told to change to non irritating washing detergents as well as to use no soap. The symptoms persisted for 6 weeks despite treatment. Skin always looked normal. A month later the itching came back just on the L side. Skin still looked normal. I had a blood test for HSV1 &2 at 6 weeks and 3 months post possible exposure. HSV2 was neg. HSV 1 was really high at 50. I have never had a cold sore but that doesn't mean anything. For the past 2 months I have had almost constant itching, pain and tingling down the L side and intermittent tingling in my feet. My gyno is treating me for vulvodynia and says herpes is possible -both 1 & 2-but she can't diagnose me without a lesion. She suggested I retest for hsv2 at 6 months.  The treatment for vulvodynia seemed to be working but then today I realized I had a tiny abrasion like a scrap on my vulva that stung to touch. Ahhhhh. I tried to get in to see my gyno but she was busy so I went to urgent care to be swabbed. I practically had to guide the dr through the process

You did the right thing getting it swabbed. I personally doubt that hsv would be the cause of your issues. Hsv symptoms don't usually last that long and itching or pain without lesions is not typical for hsv. You tested neg for hsv2 at 3 months which is a very good sign. Hsv1 is very rarely transmitted through vaginal sex as hsv1 doesn't shed much when it's a genital infection and isn't very potent when it does. The vast majority of newly acquired hsv1 genital infections will have a harsh and painful primary outbreak 3-10 days after exposure. This consists of painful lesions with fever, body aches and swollen lymph nodes.
