What are the Odds?

Roughly about 2yrs ago, I was diagnosed with Trichomoniasis and went ahead and did a complete STD screen just to be sure there was nothing else lurking in the darkness. Everything came back clean except my HSV1 results.

A year later I had a "dirty needle stick" incident at work of which I had no information or background on the patient as by the time it registered to me I had been stuck the patient was long gone. Initial testing done did not cover the HSV screening and GOD knows what else, as they weren't sure of what all the protocol entailed ( to include what anti- HIV preventative to prescribe).

I recenty did a set of follow up labs ( complete labs) for my incident. Everything came back clean, except now the HSV2 results are reading positive 1.28 ( 15 May 09).... I have had NO symptoms of ANY kind. No one "red flagged" me, I just happended to look the labs over while I had my record.

I am so distraught and broken, because I am so very particular about everything and all the guards I have put up have proven innefective for keeping me safe from harm. I've already told the news to my sexual partner of over a year ( we've only had one unprotected encounter), and plan on having another specific test done. But I have so many questions;

1. What is the margin of error for a positive read especially if I have been Asymptomatic?

2. What are the odds of building antibodies ( antigens) from that needle stick IF the person did have HSV2

3. Is the antigen level any indication of how long the virus has been in my body and if, yes, how accurate is it?

Right now this isn't reality to me and I would appreciate any light you can shed on the situation.

Thank You.

I knew the needle stick was an unlikely possibility... but I am grasping desperately in thin air for any kind of hope.

Thank you for such a speedy response. It is well appreciated.

herpes is not a blood borne virus so you didn't get it from a needle stick unless the needle was used in an active herpes lesion.

Your hsv2 igg is a low positive and most likely a false positive.  http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/771141?personal_page_id=406088&post_id=post_4036912  is a prior post by HHH that goes into this in more detail.

You'll need further confirmatory testing done.
