Herpes on scrotum?

Hello everyone,

I was diagnosed with having molluscum contagiosum in the pubic region, and was prescribed Aldara by the doctor. At about the same time, I had an inflammation at the base of my penis, which the doctor said was folliculitis (I could also see the inflammation happening beneath a pubic hair). As I began applying Aldara, the inflammation/swelling at the area of folliculitis started to spread. This resulted in a couple of trips to the doctor's, and he mentioned that it'll go away eventually, and attributed it to the possible high physical activity that I do (working out 5x/week at the gym).

At the same time when the swelling started to spread, there was also inflammation/red area on my scrotum (initial folliculitis at the right side of penis base, new inflammation at the left scrotum). I had received oral sex from a CSW at about 2-3 weeks prior to having the spread in inflammation on my pubic region. When the inflammation started to spread, the doctor also noticed a swollen lymph node. He mentioned that this is possible with folliculitis. I was also having sore throat and was falling ill. I was prescribed with antibiotics (forgot which, taken twice a day for five days), and as I returned to the doctor's with the area not healing, he prescribed antibiotics (doxycycline, 10 days, once a day).

By this time, I had stopped the treatment of Aldara, because I was sure that this was what was causing the irritation at the site of folliculitis, and it is true, as it started healing upon stopping treatment. However, the inflammation at the scrotum took very long to heal. At this point in writing, it is still not fully healed. I predict it to heal within this week from how it looks, which is at the 3-4 weeks mark since I noticed redness at my scrotum. The development of the sore at the scrotum started with redness and itching, developing to seeing yellow/white (I think something like 'dead skin') blisters (a total of two only, one inch apart from each other) when the area is wet while showering (still red when it is dry), continued to develop to visible open sores (the similar two sores), and now it is healing. It usually looks like an open sore as it is consistently having friction against my underwear. The feeling is like having a scraped knee, but having no chance to heal due to consistent friction with clothing.

I was negative for herpes as I took a full STD test back in March. As I was prescribed antibiotics, the doctor mentioned that it cannot be due to a bacterial infection as the antibiotics would have already cleared it out. I took another herpes test, which is at about 3 weeks since I was exposed to oral sex. The results came back negative, which I know will not be a conclusive result.

Initial inspection by the doctor when the scrotum was red was that it was folliculitis, similar to the areas of the base of the penis. However, he did not examine the scrotum when looking at it again at a later point in time, other than seeing the inflammation at the base of the penis (it was red anyway, unless it's wet, in which two sores can be seen). However, it's weird as all the inflammation is fully healed, but the redness at the scrotum progressed to open sores which is taking a long time to heal.

My question is: Could the two sores on the scrotum be herpes due to the oral sex I received? Or is this due to the constant friction that I experience from clothing and from working out a lot? Note on the oral sex: It was brief, and I did not recall her stimulating areas of my scrotum. Wouldn't it make more sense for the herpes lesion to appear on the penis itself? However, the healing time and the symptoms I experienced 2-3 weeks after oral sex seems quite consistent with contracting herpes.

I am worried about this, and would highly appreciate your kind feedback. Thanks in advance.

The scrotum is not a place even for first time outbreaks as the skin is very thick and also just simple contact is not sufficient to pass the virus but rubbing contact to force the virus into a nerve.

Thanks for the reply. Would it make a difference if there was indeed contact with the scrotum? I can only vaguely recall because it was quite brief.

I think my plan of action will be to wait it out. If there's a recurrent inflammation, I'll get tested again. Otherwise, I'll just wait till the next time I'm doing an STD screening again.

Hi, from the oral sex you had, initial outbreak would be on the penis shaft no on the scrotum area. First time outbreaks occur at point of contact and she was not in contact with your scrotum. Also herpes are not white/yellow puss and the scrotum area have thick skin and is a very unlikely area even for recurrent outbreaks.
So to answer your question, if she did not have contact with your scrotum, any irritations there would not be herpes related.
