Herpes or Thrush?

Hi,

Around a week ago I developed a itching/stinging sensation around the vaginal opening. After this I developed more symptoms of thrush (some discharge, smelling of yeast very red and swollen) and I was quite itchy. I went to the doctor and she prescribed me with thrush cream (6 day) and took a swab to test for the yeast infection and took a urine sample to test for chlamydia and gonnoreah. I took the cream and within 4 days the swelling and everything had gone down and the inital stinging/ itching around the opening had also subsided. I did, however feel like i had some small cuts within my vulva area, but I could not see them. They only 'stung' when i wiped with toilet paper.

I tried to look at them and in the process developed a red kind of sore rash right at the opening of the vaginal flaps?? This rash then turned into a 'cut'. A day later I went back to the doctors and she told me i had tested negative for those specific STDs and positive for a yeast infection! I then told her of these sores and she looked at them and took a swab for herpes. She said the sores were not in a common place for that of a reaction to a yeast infection. But she said they still probably were as the infection may have been really severe.

Im really worried that this is herpes. This is not the first time i have suffered these symptoms..and these cuts after a 'yeast infection'..my partner has had a very recent test for genital herpes and he did not have anything.  i have never noticed any blisters at all.

Could this be herpes???? I have really bad anxiety and this experience has been horrible.

The virus in most circumstances will require enough of the virus to be rubbed into the skin of an uninfected person. For those with a genital infection, this will mean that sexual contact is required.

Soap and water will kill the virus, just wash your hands like grandmama showed you! Just keep clothing on and there will essentially zero risk.

Even if you have a negative swab, ask about IgG antibody blood testing type specific for HSV1 and HSV2. This will help remove HSV from your thinking. Make sure this was the test your partner had as well otherwise he doesn't know his status.

Thanks, I really hope not! But the doctor wasn't 100% sure on what it was. I am finding the results out tomorrow. Also if you happened to touch the sore, does washing your hands get rid of the virus?? I have small children and would hate to spread it through changing nappies etc! I am pretty worried about transmission!

Hi, its most likely not herpes as is common to get that irritation during a yeast infection. Do let us know the test results.
