hsv-1 positive

Hi folks,

Last week I had ordered a full panel std tests and my hsv-1 result came back as 42.00 index value. I have never had a cold or genital sore in my life as far back as I can recall.

My questions are, is this index value normal? What does this value say?

What are the chances of this causing genital herpes or pass it to my partner genitally? How can I avoid that?

Is it possible to have the virus and not have any break outs?

Thanks for your help guys.

Thanks Life360 for the reply. Would you say it's normal to have this virus since child hood and not have an outbreak? I was under the assumption that once you are infected most would get reoccurring outbreaks?

Hi if you took the igG type specific that states any value about 1.2 is positive the haveing a 42 would confirm you do have hsv1 and its almost certainly oral that you contracted at childhood. Most experts say the number mean nothing but it would appear that high number mean an old infection. Just be careful giving oral sex to someone when you have an active coldsore. Many people with hsv1 oral never have outbreaks.
