Herpes or something else???

I went to an urgent care clinic yesterday Feb 6 and was told that based on visual diagnoses, I most likely had Herpes. But let me start from the beginning.

Friday morning, Jan 29, I started my period. Everything was normal for the next few days except for my vagina being unusually itchy. I had noticed over the past week it had been extra yeasty--which I had originally thought was just bits of toilet paper getting stuck. It was so itchy that I had to keep scratching, and one time when I did I accidentally cut it between the labia and vulva--it bled. Wednesday Feb 3 I finished my period. Thursday and Friday, I had sex with the guy I have been dating exclusively since September. When I told the urgent care nurse practitioner who had examined me, she was insistent that he had been sleeping with other people and that's how I got it. I know I sound naive when I say this, but I am 100% certain he hasn't slept with anyone but me since we began dating, and neither have I.

Wednesday after I finished my period I began to notice the cut from my fingernail wasn't healing at all, it had actually gotten worse. But so far there was no pain and I went about daily activities normally. Thursday, I began to notice the spot where I had cut myself had worsened, and there were bumps on the area between my labia and vulva on the other side. At this point I had not actually looked at any of this, just felt. Thursday night is when I began to notice a little pain and soreness. Friday morning is when I woke up in a lot of pain, but I didn't really think anything of it. I had sex but wouldn't let him touch me down there because it was so painful, but the sex wasn't painful at all. I could barely walk without experiencing pain so I got into a warm bath. When I got out, I felt chills, body aches, and had a temp of 99.6. I knew something was wrong so I examined my vagina and saw painful red sores along the inner lip of my labia and part of the outer lip, the right side was worse. I was horrified and extremely worried to the point of tears. Using the bathroom was excruciating.  I described it to my  roommates and said they said it was a yeast infection. I went and got the 1 day Monistat kit that night, but the next day was only worse and my throat had become sore and dry. So I headed to Urgent care.

When the nurse practitioner examined me she saw all the sores on my lips and noticed patches of pale yellow were among them. My labia and vulva were extremely swollen as were my lymph nodes, making it hard to walk. She said based on my urine sample I had a UTI and she swabbed inside my vagina as well as my sores. The yeast swab came back positive, but I won't know for a few days about the herpes. There were also several small red bumps that looked like razor burn above my vagina where the pubic hair is. When I asked what she thought it was, she said most likely herpes because she's seen this many times before. She prescribed 4 antibiotics and hydrocodone, and told me to get an anti itch/burning ointment.

Obviously devastated and confused, I went home and told the guy I've been dating. We both have no idea how I got it. If it is indeed herpes, could either of us had it before we started dating? Since it is supposed to show up 2-7 days after contraction, I don't know how I would have gotten it. I mean I was on my period the whole week before this! The extra yeast and itchiness I was noticing before the cut makes me think it is a yeast infection + UTI made worse by the cut..I'm hoping. Is that a possibility?? I've heard that bad yeast infections can resemble herpes. Any movement causes severe pain and itchiness, as does peeing. I have noticed more areas of my vagina have become extremely itchy, and my butthole itches the worst. I cannot sleep. The cortizone ointment is not working to relieve any of this. The only thing that makes it better is a warm bath.

Someone please tell me it's not herpes!!

How many days have you had sores I would ask your doc if their is any chance they could write you a prescription for HSV antiviral treatment since your partner has oral cold sores time to time and that by he time the testing comes back it would be to late to start treatment. Enforce with you flu like symptoms And vaginal pain. Antivirals best taken in 48s of first signs. At this point mah help reduce healing time and help reduce severity of reoccurrences.
I would recommend oral lysine supplement tablets for you and your partner until you can get some answers from test.

Also forgot to mention, we are both 22 and most of the time do not use protection with each other. I have used protection with most of my past sexual partners, but am not sure about him. We both also give each other oral. I am really at a loss for how I would have contracted this because we have been with eachother exclusively for the past 5 months

The edge of his mouth is dry and cracked and has been for a while. Maybe it's from a cold sore? Is it possible I could have gotten it that way?
