How come I get and OB everytime I have sex with him, plus I'm on valtrex, what the hell???

Okay first off past history... I had sex with this guy and three days later I got an outbreak. I went and got swabbed and blood work and it came back neg for anything but yeast.  I figured HSV 2 was what I had even though my tests came back neg, since I went a little late for testing and I knew it had to have come from him (I know you think, how do you know it came from him? well trust me, there is way to much info to write saying why it is from him) I mean it is pretty hard not to think you have something when your symptoms match the info on hepres sites and this one. I had another mild outbreak after that and went for testing but I never got called back and than when "I" finally tracked down my tests, they didnt have the right info or nothing. My OB was done by than, so I couldnt do any more testing. Now I was pos that herpes is what I had, since now I had an outbreak again. So anyway later on(not much like a month or two) I had sex with the guy again, unprotected. I know stupid, but I was drunk and I figured if he gave it to me and has it, than what ever, I KNOW DUMB. Anyways, three days later, same spot, I got another OB and went to the docs. This time the swab came back pos for HSV 2. I went on valtrex 500mg, one a day. I have had no outbreaks since I was on it, but I still feel like I am sitting on a marble ( have had that feeling in my left butt cheek since the first OB and the odd time I get slight itchness, but nothing big and only for a couple of sec) Well I have had sex with another guy(after going over I had herpes and being protected and taking all the right steps) and I was fine no outbreak and he is good to. well I had sex unprotected with the guy who gave me herpes three days ago (we both know we have it so why use protection) well bang same place I have an OB. it isnt big, it is mild and I had itchness for only about an hour, two blisters and they have already broke. WHAT THE HELL??? I am on valtrex so why am I getting an outbreak and still feeling like I am sitting on a marble, and why do I get an OB when I only have sex with this guy when I have read that you cant re-transmit it to one another????? I am pissed off right now and I know I should have been protected, but when you read on this site (this site is AMAZING by the way) that if two people have HSV 2, than you dont need protection cause you cnat re-transmit and you both agree that your good to go with out protection, than you believe your okay.

If you have one type of herpes on one body part, you aren't very likely to contract it on another.

I have another question as I have been reading this forum. This has nothing to do with me but i was just wondering as I am confused. If you have HSV 1 oraly and you get it in your genitals or you have HSV 2 on your genitals and you get it oraly, how does a blood test show them apart or does it just show you have HSV 1 or HSV 2 or do you have to wait for a lesion to show and have it tested, or is it hard to get the same herpes type in other areas. Just wondering, as there seems to be some people, me as one of them, who are confused by this and test results.

My doctor that gave me the valtrex awhile ago, told me to have a blood test done since I had a neg swab and a pos swab and by than it would be long enough for the blood work to read a proper state for me. He also told be to have my liver tested at the same time, since he said the valtrex filters through the liver and he wanted to make sure everything was working good and told me to drink plenty of water while on valtrex. He wanted me to do this after I had been on valtrex for a bit, so that they could make sure my liver was handling the valtrex good. I have no liver probs at all. This last doc I went to asked if I had any lesions and I said yes but told him they had broke already. He said well just take the pills. He really didnt care at all about the herpes issue, just about my throat. I had to really push to even get him to try to answer my questions if I had to up my dose or what and he would just say the same thing. My Ob is/was(it's done now, I think the valtrex made it short and kept it at bay, thank god) in the same spot as all the rest. I only had one OB on my inner thigh that wasnt in the same place that showed up on it's own. All the rest I got after sex with that guy and they where all in the same place. They all leave really red scars. I still have the scar even from my first OB in dec. Just to clear  things up... The guy I think gave me herpes I dated for three years and we broke up. A few months later we had a fling thing (thats when i has sex with him, picked up herpes and had had those few sexual incounters with him and the OB's that followed each incounter) A bit after that i met the guy who I used a condom with and had no issues but that lasted not very long( I dont think he could handle me having herpes) That was about a month and a half or more ago. Than I hooked up with my ex again the other day and got my OB while on valtrex. I am not slutty I just have an issue with going back to my ex when I am down or miss him, I'm sad I know.

You don't need to ever have any blood work done whatsoever because of the valtrex.  I have no idea where you heard that from.  Valtrex will not harm your liver or your kidneys if you are otherwise healthy.

Repeating your hsv2 igg really won't answer any questions at all. You've already had a lesion culture that was hsv2+  so you know you have hsv2.

It's unfortunate that you didn't get your provider to look at your lesions you currently have.  Are these the same area where you had your original lesions at?

When you have an ob you need to increase your valtrex to 500mg 2x/day for 3 days and then go back to your regular suppressive therapy dose of 500mg once a day.

You will need to continue following up on this with your provider to try to figure out what is going on.  If you have yourself convinced that it's from not using condoms with this partner - then wear condoms with him regardless of his hsv2 status and see if that helps.  If you two aren't in a monogamous relationship together and both have other partners - condoms are in your best interest anyways.

I also thought i should mention that the outbreaks are always on my left butt cheek or inner thigh so i dont think it is lack of lube that I am getting an outbreak from this guy.

I just went today and got blood taken for another HSV 2 test and liver test, since I was told to have it tested after being on valtrex. I told my doctor that I was having an outbreak even while on valtrex and he didn't really say much about it, he just kept talking about my soar throat. It drove me crazy. When I finally asked him what I should do, he just said finish the pills and go from there. Well that didnt help me. Should I go on another pill or increase my valtrex dose. It is at 500mg and I dont know if that is high or low. I dont know if he has been following up on his igg. I know he does have it cause he said so, but he is a hard guy to get to talk about anything unpleasing to him. With you saying that I shouldnt be getting OB's from having sex with him cause of HSV 2, has got me a little scared now. I just dont get how I can have protected sex and get nothing and have sex with a guy who has HSV 2 and get OBs. I did have an std check for everything including hiv after the second outbreak caused by this guy and everything came back normal. What other things can cause this to happen???

The best thing to do is to follow up with your provider again to see what is going on. Having sex with someone with hsv2 is not going to trigger an ob each time. Lack of lubrication though and some other issues could. Go get tested and cover all your bases ( other std's, vaginitis ) and go from there.

You really shouldn't assume that that fellow is the one you got hsv2 from without his being tested. has he followed up with his own hsv igg blood test yet?

Also I forgot to say that with my first OB I had a bad soar throat and I have a really bad soar throat right now with this OB. My neck is stiff and soar and I feel tired. I thought that most of these symptpms only came on the first and/or sec OB. My lymp nodes arent soar this OB like they were with the other ones though. But my neck and back feel liek they are going to break. So I guess my question is, fo any HSV 2 OB, can you get all the symptoms that you would get for your first OB.
