How to know if it was dormant or recently acquired

I developed a sore throat just 4 days after having unprotected sex w/ new man, and exactly one wk after oral/sex I developed 2 blisters on top of palate, one large and one small. The lymph nodes in my neck swelled within the following 2-3 days, and thinking this was some other less serious virus, my partner and I continued to have sex. A few days later the left side of my inner labia was itching and by the end of the day I had developed a blister in that tender area. The next day there were two. I'm waiting on swab test results from a wk ago which I fear will confirm that I'm positive for either hsv 1 or 2.

My question is how do I know whether it was lying dormant in me or something transferred from my recent contact?

The first time the I gave him oral sex I felt a burning tingling sensation in back of throat, but haven't found that is any indication of one who is carrying. He has no open sores, and claims to be clean. I've tested negative in past 3 mos and never had any kind of outbreak. He has strong immune system, but I'm not so lucky....

Thanks again Grace!

I'll try the alternate dosage with meals and see if that helps.

I will also report back on the homeopathic tincture and salve, which I neither found on the net nor was convinced by hoakey testimonials. I found an herbalist recommended by a trusted vitamin shop. After an exhaustive search for Dynamiclear, I found an economical, safe, and natural "preventive" that I believe is worth a try.

I'm one of those who will rely on modern medicine as necessary, but I refuse to support and buy into the industrial pharma brainwashing.

Please have hope that there are natural alternatives! Btw, the herbalist did not advise me against acyclovir, but as a reminder to you, I haven't contained the virus yet.

Not sure what herbal remedy you ordered but you probably completely wasted your money. You really should do your homework before buying those sorts of products, not rely on the "user testimonies" on their websites.

Valtrex and acyclovir work the exact same. it's not worth the money to switch at this point for you.   If you are sick of taking medication so often wtih the 200mg acyclovir dose, take 2 200mg tablets at a time 3x/day instead. Much more convenient than taking 1 every 3 hours while awake. Also make sure you are taking it with a full meal too if you are having tummy troubles ( whichi s normal and a side effect of all 3 herpes antivirals ).

I thought that when someone becomes infected it only should show up in either the genital or mouth area not both? That is to say the initial or first place of infection?

Thank you Grace! I appreciate your advice.

My doc prescribed 200 mg 5x a day for 7 days. I chose acyclovir b/c it was cheaper, but it's really messing with my stomach. I'd rather pay more for valtrex to control this outbreak. Is it okay to switch?

I ordered some herbal remedy today as an extra precaution. I'll do anything to stop the spread.

Odds are he did give it to you - oral hsv2 doesn't reoccur very often and when it does, it's more typically on the orolabial area, not the throat and inside the mouth as you've described. He needs to get out of denial and go and get tested to see what his own status is.

lysine doesn't do diddly .

The acyclovir dose should be 400mg 3x/day for 10 days - is that what they prescribed?

Try soaking your bottom in the bathtub with epsom salts thrown in for comfort. When you get out, let things dry completely and then spray dermoplast spray ( the blue can, not the red can for the genital area ) where you have lesions for pain relief.  You can also take tylenol and/or advil as needed for pain control.  Go bottomless whenever you are at home to decrease friction and increase comfort/speed healing.

it will get better I promise!

My throat blisters were confirmed HSV2. It's been exactly one week and my throat and lymph nodes are still very sore. Now I'm trying to control the spread between my legs. I'm taking L-lysine and Acyclovir. Is anything more effective in containing the initial outbreak? I'm in so much pain and discomfort.

My BF hasn't been tested yet. He still doesn't think he gave it to me.

once you get your lesion culture results back and he gets his blood test results back, we'll be able to better help you with this.

Yes, my results from April show negative for antibodies, and inconclusive for recent exposure. I was told that he needs to be tested for IGG to show whether he has antibodies or if virus is new in him.
