Hsv1 strain

Hello All, thanks for welcoming me to the group.

I have gotten a cold sore 2 years ago from my ex. It was the first time, primary outbreak. I have never had another outbreak so far. I know it was her because i saw her months later with a cold sore on her lips.

Now im dating this girl, and on our first date she has a cold sore..between her lips  and nose, not on her lips. She got it last friday.

my question is....since i haven't gotten an out break in 2 years and kissing her after her cold sore is gone...would she give me her hsv 1 strain? would i get back a outbreak? she claims this is her first outbreak after 3 years!

2. i haven't seen her since our first date....im seeing her on thursday which  about 13 days since her coldsore....should i kiss her or should i wait a little more since she could still be shedding?

3. are her lips contagious or just the area between her lips and nose where the cold sore is?

your prior gf would have to get tested to know her own status. assume nothing.

you have hsv1 orally and so does your partner. you can kiss her when she has a cold sore - it's not an issue for either of you to kiss. refrain from oral sex when an active cold sore is present to err on the side of caution.

Thanks castello80....I got a few more....when I got my first outbreak my gf at that time kiss me even when I had my coldsores and my lip was all swollen.....and she never got it nor she never had a coldsore in her life.....is it safe to say she is hsv positive? Bc I'm sure she could have catch it then.

Next question....back to this girl I'm gonna date...I met her and didn't kiss her because even though her cold sore was gone...she still had a red spot remaining from the cold sore and the new skin wasn't completely healed....I'm guessing she is still contagious?...I know I have coldsore and this doesn't matter but out of curiosity. Should I wait till her skin grows over which might take an extra 14 days.....seems kinda long to wait since she had a coldsore 2.5 weeks ago!

1). No. According to Dr. Handsfield, once someone has HSV of either type they are immune or at least highly resistant from catching the same type again in any location. Kissing her won't trigger an OB for you.

2). Since you already have HSV-1, you can kiss her while she has an OB and not get it again and you could kiss her while she's shedding and not get it again.

3). Her lips and mouth are contagious as well, but you won't get it since you already have HSV-1. It'd only be a minor issue if someone didn't have HSV-1.
