I have HSV 2 on my body.

I’ll try to make this as short as I can.

Got married in October of 2016 to the man I had been dating nearly 9 years. Found out in December of 2016 he had a prostitute addiction. We started marriage counseling and I had an STD screening. Herpes was not (for some reason) included in the screening. Everything came back clean.

January 2017. Cluster of blisters showed up on my back. Doctor called it shingles. Warned of severe impending symptoms to come. Widespread nerve pain, rash wrapping around my body, etc. He gave me a prescription for Valtrex. None of the big scary symptoms happened. Cluster of blisters grew to about the size of a dollar coin. Busted open. Crusted over and healed. No pain, no widespread rash. Figured I got a lucky break.

March 2017. Cluster of blisters occurred on left forearm. Went to my doctor. He commented that it looked like zoster. But called it a spider bite instead. Treated with antibiotics and a steroid. Took weeks to heal.

May 2017. Cluster of blisters occurred a few inches away from the last set on the same arm. I had also been struggling with unexplained hives. Doctor said it could be another spider bite. More antibiotics. Referred me to an allergist/infectious disease specialist.

June 2017. Cluster of blisters on right shin. More hives. Didn’t bother calling the doctor. Waited until my appointment with the referral doctor. By then it was scabbed over and healing. He rest for allergies, parasites, full STD screening again (minus herpes, for some reason) and told me it was a manifestation of stress as his testing didn’t turn anything up. Encouraged me to get my stress under control and take antihistamines for the hives as they happened.

Divorced my husband in July of 2017. Blisters and hives stopped.

May 2018. Same damn cluster of blisters occurs on my chest. I was determined to find out what it was. So instead of making an appointment with my regular doctor, I went to a walk in clinic and demanded testing be done, right now. Came back positive for HSV 2.

I have never had an outbreak in my genitals or mouth. Only on my body. My doctors keep saying it’s not typical and don’t really have much else to say about it. Taking Valtrex daily now for suppression.

How common is this? Is it transmitted sexually since I don’t break out in my genitals? Did I catch this from a shopping cart? Is my risk of passing it on sexually lower since it’s not on my genitals?

most people never have outbreak altough the Virus is in your body.
Even without outbreaks you can pass it on ! depends on the persons body and immune system.
Major outbreaks come from stress , depression as thid attaks nervous system .
Valacyclovir is the best solution to control this virus . no definitive treatment exists .
Take care of your inmune system and you won't issues .
Getting surpresive therapy long term Prevents passing it on Valacyclovir.

Yeah, I was aware of most of that. And I am on suppression therapy. I was mostly asking about it being on my body instead of my groin. But thanks for weighing in.
I really hope someone answers this in regards to it being on your body. What area did that culture that came back positive for hsv2?
My chest.

I had pictures of all the previous outbreaks. They were all identical. Doctors are agreeing that in hindsight, no one thought to test for herpes because it wasn’t where it was supposed to be to raise that red flag. But, yeah. All outbreaks looked the same.
