negative test after 6 weeks hsv, with sores?

Hi

After breaking up with my last boyfriend a year and a half ago, I only had unprotected sex with one partner.  While going in for my pap- my dr saw a lesion, swabbed it and it came back hpv.  I was also tested for herpes by swab and blood, both negative.

I had been abstinent for months, when I had unprotected sex with an ex boyfriend. To make matters worse, I had unprotected sex with yet another ex about a week later.  I can't describe the anxiety I created over these two encounters, as I usually always practice safe sex.  Minimizing the risk because they were both ex boyfriends is PLAIN STUPID...

About a week after the last encounter, I found a rash on my hip that went away after a few days- never turned into sores.  About three days later, came down with what I thought was a yeast infection.  I was traveling for work, so four days later I went to see the dr to determine what it was.  They tested and confirmed yeast.  I took diflucan, and was instructed to take another one in three days since the infection was bad and I was very swollen.

About a week into my infection, I was washing in the shower and say two small pimple like lesions right on the inside of the labia. From what I remember one had a hair coming out of it.  I freaked out, and assumed that it was herpes.  There was also a small pink spot further down inside the labia.  At this point, I was traveling over seas, so I couldn't see my dr.  I bought some acyclovir over the counter and started to take it.  The sores cleared up in about 4 days.  They never looked like ulcers, and never crusted.  I also didn't have flu like symptoms as most info suggests.

I was blood tested- igg for herpes 8.18, about six weeks after my last exposure.  My test results were negative.  I know that this is too soon to test and that I need to retest, and will.  My question is - would acyclovir at really low dose (10 mg X 4 a day) clear up the sores that fast?  My dr seems to think it is folliculitis from the yeast infection.  I am SO worried.  Thoughts from experts appreciated!

usually that isn't herpes but certainly follow up.

vaginitis can make the genital area very irritated. You have to make sure that there isn't any infection still going on as well as give the area time to heal.

Best of luck getting to the bottom of this all!! I know personally how much it sucks to be reminded constantly of your nether regions when something is going on :(

No they do not.

They are usually small patches with often more than one small blister within.

I should also mention that the "sores" were very red, raised and had white head tops to them like a pimple would.  Do herpetic lesions appear this way?

THANK YOU GRACE FOR THE RECOMMENDATIONS ON THE PROBIOTIC.

I guess the confusing part is that I am still very sore vaginally.  Is that common after an outbreak has subsided (2 weeks later)

acyclovir doesn't come in a 10 mg dose. are you sure that acyclovir was what you were taking?

At this point, you should return to be seen again. Get retested for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally. Not unusual at all to have a hard time breaking the  vaginitis cycle.

You also should look into fem dophilus by jarrow ( available outside of the US as uric cap 5 ). It's a probiotic that has been shown to colonize the urogenital tract in females to help reduce the incidence of vaginitis and uti's. If you have a history of yeast issues, taking this daily might help you finally break the cycle.

could this be herpes going on? It could be. I think it's well worth repeating your hsv2 igg 16 weeks after you last had sex just to err on the side of caution. Should you get a return of lesions, be sure to be seen within 48 hours of their appearance for a lesion culture and typing. That's the best way to diagnose hsv1 genitally as well as to confirm hsv2. Many things can cause these sorts of lesions, even vaginal yeast infections. If you continue to get sores and test negative for herpes on your repeat testing, be sure to seek out additional follow up with a dermatologist to try to figure out what is causing your symptoms.

Thank you for the comment fleetwood- I guess I should also mention that I have been very tired, and have had vaginal pain as well.  I have had diflucan mess with the ph of my lady parts before, but this seems to be almost an aching.  Aside from that, It has been about two weeks since this "outbreak" if that is what it is.  would i still be feeling crummy after the outbreak like this?  I have a tendency to over think and worry and think that some of the symptoms I am feeling with the tiredness could be jet lag from my trip.  The rest perhaps self induced?  I'm scared from being SO stupid.

I am far from convinced what you describe is herpes. I think perhaps a test under the circumstances you describe for all STDs is a smart move.

Make sure, when you reach 12 weeks after last sexual exposure, that you request IgG antibody testing type specific for HSV1 and HSV2.
