In Foreign Country, Please advise me!

Dear Readers,

Thank you for your time, it is especially appreciated as I am currently in Japan for a many-month stay. Japan IS a developed country, but I am in a small village and nobody really speaks English (and I don't speak Japanese). So, please, your advice is very important.

My story: I am a 26 year old male. Exactly 30 days ago I noticed a red spot, about half a centimeter (maybe smaller) in diameter on the edge of the head of my penis. It was a red spot, not a lesion, and had a very moderate sensitivity to touch. I've looked at it about every 5 seconds for the past 30 days and it has not changed much. I had some fatigue and muscle pain around the first few days, but these were mild symptoms which could easily be explained away by backpacking and jet lag (I arrived 1.5 days before the spot appeared).

HOWEVER, everything I read treats Herpes as the nightmare virus that can have no symptoms, severe symptoms, or any symptom you want to make up that magically is another rendition of HSV. I've been terribly distraught and go in and out of depression and despondence because I feel rather helpless. From what I've read it seems unlikely that this is HSV, but "you never know!" I've been looking up Japanese STI clinics in larger neighboring cities, but getting tested does not seem like it will e an easy task. I am willing to try anti-fungal ointment if anyone can give me a suggestion, or... Any other ideas? One further comment is that the red spot started to subside about 10 days, but having been utterly depressed and having not masturbated for those 10 days, in a semi-self-destructive and horny-as-can-be way I masturbated about 3 or so times per day for a few days. There was no additional pain or discomfort, but the red spot started to come back. Needless to say I cut back on the aggressive masturbation, but the spot has persisted.

I read many posts on here, and some of the posts complain about attaching pictures and the like. I am more than willing to take a picture and post a link if there is any request or readers think it will help.

Thank you for any advice.

I have no idea if there are otc antifungals in japan or not.

There are a lot of folks out there who think that their herpes is the cause of everything and causes symptoms for a long time - majority of the time they are wrong about what is going on. You really have to take some things with a grain of salt.

Unfortunately I really can't help you much at this point. You need to find a place to be seen and properly examined. It's very unlikely this is herpes going on.

I really am not in a position to easily access a doctor (I am working on it), and a flagged link is only viewed by those who go ahead and click on it. Nevertheless, I will respect the rules here.

The "unchanged for a month therefore not herpes" idea is relieving, but I've still read (possibly apocryphal) stories about long-lasting herpes symptoms (on the order of months). Plus, although it would be great to confidently reject herpes, there's still -something- there. Just as every other paranoid individual out there I have read all the top hit herpes web search result pages and I cannot attribute my symptoms to any particular condition. I'd rather not watch my penis decay slowly. Are there OTC anti-fungal products available? From everything I've read this does not seem like jock itch... Plus, I'll have to figure out the Japanese product equivalent. Sigh.

Thank you for your response.

if you read our read before posting post on this forum you'll see why we don't allow pictures.

anything that is there unchanged for a month isn't due to herpes.
