Is it possible to have several recurrences of genital HSV1 within a few months?

I am a female in my mid-30s.  I had a positive gential HSV1 swab test in November 2007.  Since then I have had no recurrences that I was aware of until this past February 2010.  I came down with what I thought was a yeast infection.  I had all the common symptoms, discharge, itching, etc.  I used Monistat and Diflucan which seemed to treat it, and saw my doctor for further STD testing just to be sure.  She confirmed that it appeared to be a nasty yeast infection and the STD tests I had done all came back negative (except HSV1 of course).  About 4 weeks later I had what I thought was another yeast infection.  I treated it immediately with Diflucan, and 7 days after that treatment, I was not convinced it was a typical yeast infection.  The discharge resembled mucous and had a slight odor.  I saw another doctor who indicated that it was quite possible I was having an HSV1 recurrence.  However, there were no sores to test and so the doctor said it was unclear what type of infection it was and recommended I begin taking Valtrex daily.  I have been taking the Valtrex daily since then but now I believe I may be having another recurrence just 3 weeks after the last one based on the recurrence symptoms the doctor brought to my attention last time!  Is it possible to have such frequent recurrences of HSV1, especially since it had been over two years since the primary infection?  I was under the impression that HSV1 recurrences were not that frequent, especially as time goes by.  I have never had a cold sore or any infections on my mouth, face.

I have been with my partner for 9 months and he was recently tested, with all tests negative, including HSV1.  I am afraid to pass it on to him.  Any thoughts on the matter?

Thank you!

odds are this isn't hsv1 going on this frequently.  If it's not herpes, all the valtrex in the world isn't going to make a difference.   wait a week after your period and go back to be tested for yeast and bacterial infections genitally if you still have symptoms.  otherwise at this point, if you suspect you have a yeast infection again, don't self treat but be seen and get proper testing done.

mucusy discharge and no lesions seen by your provider means it's very unlikely this was due to your hsv1.

hi grace,
they did not do any testing of the secretions... by the time i got in to see the doctor almost 10 days had passed since my initial symptoms plus my period had just begun so she did not see anything worth while to test.  the uncertainty of what it was is tough to take... i have not had any recurrences in over 2 years and now i'm under the impression that i may have just had 2 in the last 3 months.  anytime there is a slight twitch or tingle down there, i think i'm having an outbreak.  i am taking the valtrex daily which supposedly helps, but i've heard it's not effective for everyone and doesn't prevent all recurrences, so maybe it's not working for me.  i wonder if it's possible that it is causing me to have more outbreaks?

when you were seen the 2nd time, did they do any testing of your vaginal secretions?
