Is this a symptom or sign?

Hello,

I am currently freaking out about hsv2. I received a positive result about a week or two ago ago from an IGG test at 1.11, tested 4 weeks prior, equivocal, 1.07. Since my initial test I have been constantly focused on my vagina. I have had this itch that comes and goes and I didn't notice it until after the first test. I'm not sure if its because of hair growing back or what but it kinda really bothers me. I shaved today and noticed that on the crease between my vagina and where my thigh meet the skin is white. I am a plus sized women and I do chafe sometimes. I also noticed some raw skin like I may have cut my skin or a bump with the razor. To me it honestly just looks like dry skin that is irritated from me scratching and shaving, but that could just be me being hopeful. I noticed the same thing about 3 weeks ago when I last shaved.  I guess my question is are these signs or symptoms of hsv2 (on & off itching, white/raw skin) or am I just over analyzing my vagina? If they are symptoms should I have experienced something else by now, bumps pus discharge? And should it last this long. Its been about  4 or 5 weeks.

Doesn't sound like hsv. Sounds more fungal than anything.

I can't find anyone in my area to do the biokit. I have an appointment coming up to get retested. That soreness I mentioned earlier has come back. Its like dry cracked white skin on the outside of my vagina. Right where my inner thigh and vagina meet. Have you ever heard of something like this before? Is it probably just chafing, there's no push or anything, no bumps. Just white dry skin and red small patches of raw skin within the dry area. Its in an isolated area as well.

I am not surprised by her negative test. Like I said, contracting hsv2 from oral sex is not a realistic possibility. You can see if you can find a rapid biokit rapid test for hsv2. These will help confirm your status. Good luck and please keep me posted.

Thank you. Yea it definitely clears up my thoughts of getting it from her. Theres always what ifs though. Like what if its from my boyfriend and he doesnt know he has it, or if he cheated and got it and gave it to me.Im convinced that I dont have it so i dont really wannaa bring it up.

Well it's clear you didn't get hsv from the encounter you were worried about. I seriously doubt you have hsv2. An old infection could have a low number bUT I seriously suspect the test is picking up something else.

The female that gave me oral sex came back negative. I still havent noticed a sign or symptom. I did shave again and I saw the red spots again. It really looks like i had bumps that I shaved off. There were circular red flat spots. They didnt hurt, until i put alcohol on them. They slightly itched. No pus or anything leaked out and they went away in a day but it freaked me out because I never saw, or noticed, them before. Im not sure if i asked this before already but my obgyn said this is possibly an old infection. How could that be if my results went from equivocal to a low positive? If it was an old infection woulfnt it be higher? Would it go down into the equivocal range if its an old infection?

Not necessarily. The time frame for conclusive hsv igg testing is twelve weeks. This is because it takes time to build antibodies. If you wait say 3 weeks. Test again and your results are in the 3.00 range then I would say you are in the process of building more antibodies. I again think hsv2 from your exposure was not realistic.
I know first hand how you feel.

So the female that gave me oral test results came back negative. Does that most likely mean that Im actually negative? Im going to get retested next month thou

Do you think the number would be alot higher from a new infection?

Thank you. I guess that just leaves me with the possibility that if it is a new infection & i really hope not then it would indeed be from my boyfriend!

That is a possibility. However, hsv2 is very rarely an oral infection and not widely spread from the oral cavity.

Thats understandable. Im just worried thats its steadily increasing to a true positive. From 1.07 to 1.11 in 4 weeks and 1.11 to 1.24 in a week. :/

There is some variation in every test. The number represents how confident the test is it saw antibodies. Remember anything less than a 3.5 is in the suspect range and possibly a false positive.

Thank you soooo much! Even though its increasing im still looking at the likelihood of a false positive?

Yeah. Not exactly the best advice moving forward. The number has nothing to do with spreading the virus. It does however mean that your chances of not having hsv2 at all is quite good.
Like I said, your chance of hsv2 from oral sex is so low that it would be like getting struck by lightning during a shark attack.
In my opinion you can rule out hsv2 from the exposure you're worried about. That leaves the likely hood of a false low positive very high. These are common.
The best thing you can do is the western blot test as it's a more thorough test. Or wait a few weeks and do another igg test.
I know this is not easy and I had a low false positive igg test at 1.3. It really messed with my mind. I just kept somewhat calm and sought out many experts opinions and did the western blot test. Came back negative. I even did another igg test after that. Also negative.

She literally told me "its nothing that I would stop life for because the results are soo low. You can still enjoy life and remember to protect yourself but the likelihood of spreading it is very slim since its soo low".... like gee thanks! She didnt ask my sexual history or anything. Im sorry im just sitting here thinking about it.

Thank you for the information. Youre a great help and help to put me at ease!! But I actually got tested a week after the 1st positive test at 1.11 and just received my results today which are 1.24! The nurse practitioner said since its so low, ill probably never have symptoms and im not shedding at the moment and most likely wont shed frequently at all and to be safe. But she told me im positive. How can they be so sure?? Does her information even make sense? Since it increased in a week from 1.11 to 1.24 does that definitely mean im positive??

You are surely over analyzing things. These are not a symptom of hsv. Your tests are not conclusive for hsv. Like has been said in your previous thread.
It would also be unusual for these symptoms to last this long if it was hsv. General itching is not a symptom of hsv.
I know this is a hard time for you right now. With the worry of hsv2 on your mind, everything will feel like a symptom. I doubt you have hsv and these symptoms aren't changing my opinion. I would wait a few weeks and test again. I know you didn't contract hsv2 from the exposure you had. So it's either a long standing infection. Which I doubt as the numeric value of the test is so low. Or it's a false positive being triggered by something else. Not uncommon.
In the mean time just try not to be over anxious (I know not an easy task) and stop examining yourself. This will lead to aggravating the area causing you further worry. These low positives are why many experts don't recommend random testing.
