Is this related to herpes

I'm a male of 36 yrs. Had protected vaginal sex with a CSW 7 weeks back. Before I wore my condom she tried to give me a blow job without a condom. The unprotected oral exposure on my shaft was only about 30 seconds. After this I wore a condom and continued  a oral and vaginal penetration.

Day 4 after exposure - mild headache at the back of the head and in the left eyeball. Also has a lesion in the inside of the lower lip that eventually turned into a blister that recurs even now. I remeber biting the lesion while eating.

Day 10 after exposure - mild fever; Was on antibiotics for a week after which fever & headache subsided. Had mild sensitivity while urination but No noticeable blisters on the penis.

The symptoms that persit till date (7 weeks after exposure) are :

The recurring lesion blister inside my lower lip which breaks with little pus

Mild pain in the back of the head

Pain in the left eye ball and ear. I feel mild blur in the left eye

Left eye irritation (no redness)

My question is:

1) Is it possible that the CSW infected me with HSV 1/2 during the 30 second oral on me. But I have no blisters on my shaft

2) Is it possible that the blister in my mouth is due to HSV. But I did not have any contact with the CSW with my mouth

3) Is my head ache and eye problem related to Herpes infection

Thank you for the answers..I am really worried..

Hi Grace,

As Sacredandtired says, I have the EXACT SYMPTOMS as explained above.
can you please help me with this.  your expert view can corelate and narrow down my issues and move ahead with life.

I received oral sex from CSW.

Day 3 - Pulsing throbbing sensation in the lower right abdomen.

Day 8 - throbbing  dull ache in the right testicles with tingling sensation in the penis head. (continued for a week).

week 4 - mild thorbbing dull ache in the right testicles with rare tingling sensation in the penis head.

"I  never had sores, lesions in the penis."

week -6  I had a red colored pin head sized bump on right arm and on the stomach with no pain.

week - 7 - I got 2 new blisters in lower lip (I never had this recently for the past 3 years,  I have had the same kind of blisters during boyhood days)

week 9 - pin head sized red colored bump started healing and also the blisters in the lips also started healing.

when i posted this symptomps in the forum, i got a reply that these are not symptomps of herpes and i thought it may be coincidence.

when i kept reading the old archive in the forum, i got this thread.

now my school of thoughts are, my symptopms are coincidnece. because already sacreadandtired also got the same symptomps after an exposure to unprotected oral sex.

is this some thing asymptomatic herpes. I just received an oral sex for a minute. i'm not going with symptomps in the internet. i want to get it clarified with you .
I'm upset that i cannot lead a married life.

the person who started thread also not posted any thing after his last message.

please grace, can you please help me with this.

I have decided to do type Specific IGg test after three months.

even though it seems like just about everyone has hsv1 genitally nowadays, it's still not the preferred area to infect. I wouldn't worry much about the encounter in question.

Thank you grace for your response. While I am working on the logistics of geeting my partner tested, I wanted your advice on the risk of hsv1 transmission genitally to my partner due to the one time brief cunnilingous i performed on her. Does such one time brief exposure result in transmission of HSV1 genitally (which I understand does not prefer the genital areas).

your partner would need tested for herpes to know what her hsv1 status is in order to make educated decisions about what precautions to take together for oral sex together.

correct, you are hsv1+ and hsv2-.

Dear Grace..I appreciate your valuable advice on my test and the risk to my regular partner due to the one time brief cunnilingus I performed on her.

The results were meant to read as follows:

HSV-1 IgG: 5.73
HSV-2 IgG: 0.11

1.2 Positive

Dear Grace..I think I have some sensible results to share with you now. The results (17 weeks after my exposure) are the following:

HSV-1 IgG: 5.73 (1.2 Positive)
HSV-2 IgG: 0.11 (1.2 Positive)

From the results of this type specific test, Can I now assume that I am positive for HSV-1 and negative for HSV-2? Whether my positive HSV 1 is due to my with my current exposure or whether I had had it before.

I do not have any genital symptoms. I have no obvious cold sores now, though I had what I thought to be canker sores/lesion in my mouth since childhood. Last week, I had a swelling on my lower eye lid with a small white blister along the eye lash. This lasted for 2 days. Is this a symptom of oral/ocular HSV-1?

I perfomed brief oral sex on my regular partner last week, whose HSV status is not known. Assueming that my HSV-1 is oral, What are the chances that I could tannsmit HSV1 to her genitally from this brief encounter?

Pls help..I seem to be in a real mess..

there is nothing I could possibly add. I've already explained to you that you are not getting tested with a test of which I am familiar enough with to let you know the accuracy of it.  really nothing else I can do to help you at this point.

Dear Grace..Need your kind advice in interpresting my test results. I did a retest for HSV 1 80 days after my exposure and 30 days after my first test result  came out highly positive (173 RU/ml) for HSV 1.

My recent test result for HSV 1 came out negative (5 RU/ml). I am baffled. How can a higly positive result come out negative after a month??

I checked up with the lab regarding the test thry are using and have been told that they use a type specific ELISA kit from EUROIMMUN. I googled and found literature that says that the efficacy of EUROIMMUN is comparabale to the HERPESELECT.

During my latest testing I also tested for HSV 2 which came out negative (<2 RU/ml).

My question is regarding my contradicting  HSV 1 results. Is my first test result a "False Positive". If my first test result were true (higly positive), I would think that my retest also should be positive, since the antibodies are already produced in my body. Should I believe my latest test results and be assured that I am negative for HSV 1 and 2? or Did the 10-day zovirax medication cause my latest result to be negative??

Regarding symptoms, I dint have the classic blisters of herpes. My current symptoms continue to be mild head ache, left eye pain, mild pain in the right testis and lower back.

Please help....

Dear Grace..Thanks for your response..

I only pray that my eye symptoms are not related to HSV-1. I am seeing my opth again tomorrow.

I am also planning for a retest for HSV 1 and testing for HSV 2. I am now about 75 days since my exposure and 30 days since I finished the 10 day course of Zovirax. Is it a good time to get tested or would zovirax alter or suppress the result? What kind of test should I specifically ask for?

usually it doesn't look much like a blister when it's in the eye or near the eye.

you were seen and they didn't think your eye issues look like they are herpes related.

an ophthalmologist is best for eye issues.

Thanks Grace regarding your comment on the testing..

can you advice if HSV 1 can cause such eye symptoms without any blisters at all in the eye. If it has to infect the eye or the ocular nerves, I presume it would have to be a severe infection and manifested in other symptoms such as blisters. Is that true?

Whether the eye symptoms should have subsided after taking zovirax, if at all they were due to HSV1. I was just trying to rule out HSV 1 for my eye problems since my docs I have seen so far have not been able to help. If HSV 1 does not seem the probable cause (out of your experience), then I am considering seeing a neurologist...

Thanks once again...

As I said before, I really can't comment on the testing you had done. there are good tests and not so good tests out there and since you aren't in the US, I have no idea what testing you had done to really comment on its accuracy.

most adults in india have hsv1. it's very common.

Dear Grace..Your guess that my oral sore is not due to herpes is true. According to the ENT it turned out to be submucous cysts. He removed about 10 cysts (1 mm dia) from the location of the sore with a minor incision.

Now, I request your advice on my highly positive HSV 1 IgG result of 173 RU/ml that I described above (7 weeks after exposure). The report comes with a footnote "A highly positive result may indicate acute or recent disease". Is it possible that this is due to my recent exposure? If so why is the IgM negative? Is it possible to have such a high IgG 7 weeks after exposure?

Do you advice a retest and if so what kind of test. Considering that I have taken Zovirax for 10 days, how long should I wait before a retest to get an actual picture?

I am pursuing this because of my continuing eye symptoms.Dry, burning feeling in the left eye with slight blur.I am also experiencing dry and wrinkled skin on my fore arms and thighs..Do you think, if my eye symptoms were herpes related, it should have subsided by this time (after taking zovirax).

Your advice is greatly appreciated...

absolutely no reason to think it's herpes in your eye from this.  follow up on it with your eye doctor.

Hi Grace..My urologist felt that the discolouration is of no concern; he suggested that the pain in scrotum might be funiculitis and prescribed hetrazan (which I understand is antihelminthic). Hoping to get cured with this.

My eye blur still persists and I googled, to find, ocular herpes could cause blur vision. Though you suggested that it could not be herpes related, I am getting worried because this simply doesnt go away.

I do not have reddening or sores in the eye..only mild blur when seeing far objects and slight discomfort. I dont have a running nose or sore throat to suspect sinusitis either.

I am lost as to what is causing this blur eye. Your advice will be really helpful.
