Is herpes a possibility

About a month ago I had a very painful pimple looking deal at the base of my penis. I have gotten these in the past and nothing ever came of it. This time the pain was really bad so I went to the doc. She gave my genitals the once over and said that it looked like an ingrown hair. She gave me doxycyline and sent me on my way. I was given 20 100mg pills to be taken twice a day for ten days. I took all but three of the four of the pills. The pain and pimple seem to cure withing a few hours of taken the meds. This past saturday, after heavy drinking, I noticed another painful pimple in close the the same spot. It may be the same spot but I cannot say. This time it was as painful as the first and it appeared and popped the same day.  I felt it when it popped and it made that side of my genital area itch. I toughed it out on saturday night and remembered on the next morning that I had some dox left over. I began to take them again. I also washed every two hours just to keep everything clean and to try and localize the infection.Once again, they seemed to have an immediate effect as the itching and pain stopped and the pimple began to heel. While given it the once over on Sunday afternoon I thought I noticed a hair but couldn't really tell. Did not want to pick at it since the sore was still open. I also applied triple antibiotic ointment to the area in conjuction with the meds and washing. Prior to the intial test, I was sexually active with a condom. My question is that do antibitotics have any effect on the herpes virus and would I need to test again because the first test was a three week test? Thanks in advance for your time and opinions. BTW, I am a 23 yr old bi male who is seemingly fit if that helps. Thanks again.

Thanks Grace for your response and support. Am I correct in thinking that 8 weeks is long enough for a conclusive result. I noticed that the sore did not seem to heal which I was told was because of the antibiotic cream that I was applying. This may have help spread the folliculitis. I am just hypersensitive right now. I can feel things there I never knew I could. Do you have any tips on how to possibly get it out of my mind in idle time. When I working it is not a thought. When I am idle, that is when I worry and that is when I notice more symptoms. Again any tips to help with that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm glad you followed up on this. Your provider found a hair in it to remove so it probably is just an ingrown hair.  It should clear up quickly now for you.

Yeah thanks for the reply. I was only bumping my thread to keep it seen. I have since went back and she pulled a hair from the bump this time so hopefully this is over. I voiced my concern about herpes or anything for that matter and she said that waiting is really the only thing to do. I have to wait two more weeks until the 8 week moment. I appreciate the response however. I am a little worried and she told me that this can be self induced to to heightened alertness and what not. So I guess I will just wait and see what happens. Thanks again for the reply. Think I needed to talk more than anything.

If you read our read before posting post on this forum you'll see that it's all volunteers here and it can sometimes take up to 24 hours at least until someone replies. We do try to answer all posts .

You need to stop picking at this and go to your provider again. Let them know that it's reoccured.  Condoms are not 100% protection against herpes trasnmission either.
