Hi Terry,
I am a 54-year old woman and have recently experienced a UTI that was cleared up with Cipro and yet I continued to have a terrible burning pain in the clitoral area. More than 20 years ago, I had a lesion on my inner labia that was swabbed, but came back negative for the herpes viruses. The doctor said it may have been past the point of being active for the swab to be positive. I have had no lesions or pain since, but this constant, burning pain in my clitoris feels nerve-like in nature, and I was wondering if it could be a latent herpes virus that reactivated during my UTI. I have no lesions at this time. If this is the case, how can help alleviate the current pain and is there something I can do in the future to avoid this if I first notice the pain coming?

Thank you so much for any advice,

NS lady

this is not Terri's forum - you have to pay to post to her.

definitely  be seen again today and tomorrow and get this looked at. they can also test you for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally while you are there. yeast infections aren't unusual after antibiotic use.

you can also follow up with a type specific herpes igg blood test to see what your status is. They are hard to find where you live but they are available. Herpes lesion cultures have a high false negative rate so following up with igg blood testing is a good idea.
