Herpes remission possible?

Hello,
I am a heterosexual male aged 29. While studying at university in 2002, I was diagnosed as having been exposed to Herpes. The doctor mentioned that the test was new and that it was known to have false positives.
I never had any herpes symptoms until about 2005. Also very little dangerous behaviour between 2002-2005.
In 2005, I moved to a location in a developing country and also engaged in more dangerous behaviour. Sex with prostitutes.
In 2006 I had a persistent case of jock's itch.
This reoccuured in 2007.
Since 2008, I have been having reccurrent herpes symptoms on my penis. The symptoms usually occur after sex or masturbation. Sometimes they are accompanied by a sore throat and mild fever-flu symptoms.
I want to add that the episodes have been increasing in frequency and severity over the past year.
I first showed it to a doctor(of questionable competence) who immediately categorized it as herpes, after I told him about my previous diagnosis.
However upon getting a blood test done for HSV 1 and HSV 2 (enzyme immunoassay) I was told by this doctor that I no longer had Herpes. Is this possible?
Could it be that I have been misdiagnozed.
Recently I had a reduced lymphocite count of 32% on a cbc test, which I Had taken following a persistent flu that lasted over a month.(I still have a sore throat and its been 3 months now).
Is there a relation between herpes and the lymphatic systom?
I had one doctor tell me I had tonsilitis and another tell me that I had pharyngitis.
No medication has helped so far.
HIV tests have all been negative so far, the last one a few days ago.
Now my wife-recently married who has not had any other sex partners has developed small boils (ulcers) around the vagina. She has also has a thick offwhite and pungent vaginal discharge. This seems to have been exacerbated by consumption of antibiotics azithromycin.

-Confounded and troubled.

How were you originally diagnosed as having herpes? Did you have symptoms or just have a blood test screening done?

It's not very likely that you had Herpes then you didn't because once someone contracts the virus it's for life I'm afraid, my advice is that both you and your wife go to the STD/GUM Clinic and  get tested for HSV and any other STD's you haven't already tested for,to be honest it was very irresposible of you to go ahead with unprotected sex with your new wife knowing you had concerns about your sexual health, however it's too late now to think about that ..... you both need to get checked out asap it may simply be a Bacterial Infection but if that is the case then BOTH of you need treated at the same time otherwise it will just be passed back and forth indefinately via sex  .....
Both having tests done is the only way  .....
