picked at a bump, is it herpes???

I have had unprotected sex more than a year ago.  But since March 09 I have only had protected sex with two people. One is currently my boyfriend.  I had a cold sore near my lip recently so i looked down below to see if anything unusual was going on and I found a bump or blister looking thing close to the outside of my labia. I squeezed the blister and fluid did come out.  I continued to picked at it for awhile until I actually plucked out an ingrown hair.  I had to basically cut the skin.  There was lots of blood but i also felt clear fluid. Now i have a bunch of redness around the area i picked at.  There is also a circle of pinkish/whitishh discoloration of my skin in the middle of the redness. It looks really shiny.  There is no blister or crusting.  I am afraid that it is herpes.  I take anti-viral medicine everyday so that I don't get cold sores and think that the only reason it does not look exactly like herpes is because that medicine helps speed up the healing of herpes.  Could this be gential herpes?  Could I have given myself genital hepres from my cold sore???

About 2 months ago the same thing basically happen and I freaked out.  The ingrown hair i picked at it but it healed within a few days and I didn't see the pinkish/whitish discoloration. Help me I am a basket case of nerves.

if you are on  daily medication for cold sores, the lesion culture really was a total waste of time and money.

I went to my doctor and she said she wasn't going to rule it out but she said it looks like it's a staph infection.  She told me the same advice to stop touching it.  She said my lymph nodes were not swollen and I did not get sick at all.   I also told her i was on daily meds for cold sores,  She said she doesn't think it is herpes but took a culture anyways.

This is the 3rd time I went in frantic about std's.  After getting my test results back which is taking forever I am getting evaluated for panic attacks.

since this is something that has occurred before in the same spot, ruling out herpes is a good idea. has your current partner been tested for herpes? Have you had type specific igg blood testing in all of your trips to the doctor?

The only thing we can suggest is stop picking at your bumps.  Show up to your doctor within 24-48 hours to have them culture it or PCR it.  Even if they say its nothing request that they do the swab and culture it.

Generally most people have HSV-1 orally.  Some don't have cold sores so they don't know they have it or what location.

HSV-2 looks like HSV-1 on the skin.  The healing process is not unique to HSV the skin has a wound it heals itself the same way.

I have been monitoring this ingrown hair that I plucked out on Wednesday.  I am hoping that it is just an ingrown hair and not herpes but it is healing and there is no crusting or scabbing.  It kinda look like it is healing like a cut but I don't know.  I have HSV1 and know the healing process but I havent seen the typical signs.  Can you please tell me what HSV2 would look like healing.  The spot where I plucked out the hair is a little  raised.  I am treating it like a cut so i swab peroxide on it and it burned slightly and the spot where i plucked out the hair turned white.  The area around that spot is just a little red, gets more irriated when I mess with it.  Please tell me what you think.

I plan on getting a blood test to see if I have it.  Also how long ago could I have contracted HSV2 and only having a symtom now.  I don't engauge in high risk behavior.

Thank you for your time, I am starting to become obsessive.

no. I def. have hsv1 but in the past year i went to my doctor several times for her to look at suspious bumps and things and I always come out with a bill of clean health.  Ive been having panic attacks that I m getting a cold sore or std's.  I have been to a therapist about this.

The sore is still healing and there is no crusting, the redness has went down since I stopped messing with it.  Is it possible that it is herpes???

since you've picked at it so much, too late for a culture on it.

condoms only reduce transmission o fherpes by 30%. You still need herpes igg blood testing to know what your status is.

have you and your partner ever been tested for herpes before?
