Nerve block???

9-years ago, I had a vasectomy.  Apparently, trauma from the procedure has resulted in continued testicular pain.  They ruptured about 3-years ago resulting in an epididyectomy.  That helped; however, the pain continued.  Most recently, the doctor has performed an illionguinal and genitofemoral nerve block.  Talk about amazing...pain has nearly vanished.

What I have noticed is that I still have a lot of lower back pain (very lower back).  When I use heat, it helps the back pain; but, my feet feel like they are on fire.  This pain all started about the time I was exposed to HSV-2 about 3-years ago.  From that point on, my lower back and feet have been a constant source of problem for me.

The Dr wants to do a sacral nerve block (believing this pain to be associated with the vasectomy trauma).  I know that HSV-2 resides in the sacral nerve ganglia.  My question is will this nerve block create huge issues?  I have read some horror stories of people who have lower back surgeries and it throws the virus into overdrive...  (I realize some of these may be a stretch)  I just want to know if it is smart to continue the treatment; or if I should just live with the pain and burning feet...

did you ever get testing to confirm your own herpes infection after your prior post?

I'd take a round of antivirals starting the day before the procedure just in case. it really shouldn't be much of an issue.  if you are extra paranoid, take about 2 weeks of antivirals.
