test results 1.61

Can you explain to me my results of 1.61 tested 3-3-11? Last test was 8/10/10 results were <.90. How long have I had this? I had a bad cold sore in February of 2010, the doctor asked was i with one partner i said yes and they just gave me antibotics, they never tested the bumps. Could I have had herpes then and tested negative in August?

we'd just be guessing as to if you really are infected at this point so waiting to do confirmatory testing is the best you can do at this point.

@William I don't have any symptoms, I only found out that I have this because of a blood test I got done in the middle of the first week of being back with my ex. @ Mistakeguy, I called the doctor office yesterday and they looked back at my files and said I had hsv-2. The last time i had sex with my ex was 3/9/11. before getting the blood test on 3/3/11 I had sex with him the whole week of 2/20/11-2/24/11 and started again 3/6/11-3/9/11. Oral and intercourse was done each night. So thats why i stated Ill another test in July.

You should have the WB performed after 4 months of your last sexual encounter that led to this test score.  IE: You had sex Jan 14 and tested March 5. Wait 16 weeks from Jan 14 and then order a WB.

I assume your doctor misread your scores.  Given you have a positive HSV-2 score.  Assume nothing at this point.

so you think i should wait another 4 months and get tested again for another type specific test for herpes to verify what i have? they said type 1 but once again in the mean time me and my ex has had oral and genital sex. Im sure if i have type 2 by this time. I will do just that, i'll wait til july to get another test. Thank you for your time and cooperation. You guys are truly a blessing and im not religious but a blessing is a blessing thats what you two are and anyone else that tries to help ppl with accurate info and support.

I'd certainly get a herpes WB blood test 4 months after the last time you had sex to confirm your status at this point.

Tough break on this guy.  Sadly when some people think Herpes and STD they fear.  They have that stigma that only people who sleep around a lot have those.  *sigh*

Yeah doctors who don't know it very well give the general talk. Most times they give basics to move on to the next patient.  Sad but true.  Best thing he could do is come here and learn or westoverheights.com and read up on genital herpes.

Grace should be back on monday.  If you don't get a post from her by then I would say post on your thread the word bump (it moves your post back to page 1) and she will get to you.

my paperwork says HSV-2 igg 1.61. But as i stated my doctor's office stated it was type 1 and kept repeating it. I had sex with my ex the day before i posted my question, i found out that same evening i posted my question. I have been performing oral sex on my partner every night for about two weeks no more than 3 weeks. He stated he got tested 3 months ago, but as i explained to him that you have to ask for a herpes test its not one of the required test. He isn't speaking to me, he is very ignorant to herpes and stated he will learn about it from his doctor. But my fear is his doctor just giving him general information like, its common and etc... But not truly explaining to him all about it living in you for years and not knowing etc.... I learned all my information from reading alot of websites. Education on this topic has made me less ignorant and more understanding to the situationa and try to be more calm about it. Im just scared that i gave it to him. He like many others think hsv 2 is worst, i explained that 1 and 2 share 50% of its dna. That doctors don't totally know all the answers, I hope he can move on from this and someday speak with me again. Either way, I know i have 1 like i stated I had a horrible cold sore in the ending months of 2009 and it lasted into the new yr. I had strep throat at the same time and the er doctor didn't seem concerned with my cold sore and just said he can't give meds for it but for my infection in the throat. He said the stress helped the strep increase with helped the cold sore grow. I just wish i would have gotten it tested then. He asked was i with one person and i stated yes so he figured it was ok to not test me. I was getting flu like symptoms after that for a lil while. Now that i think about everything, it all make sense. I believe i had it back then and never paid attention cuz i was ignorant to the disease and was with one person. It might have been living in me since then and now it comes up on the test.

ONce again, thank you for your time, i truly appreciate it.

Grace isn't going to be very active this week.  I am not going to say you do or do not have HSV-2.

Most STD panels don't include HSV type specific igg tests.  You have to ask for it most of the time.  So unless your partners have paperwork showing they were tested for herpes chances are they weren't tested at all for that.

First off if this test was done after about 3 months there is a chance that this could be false positive if it is truly HSV-2.  Does the paperwork state HSV-2 igg 1.61?  When was the last time you had any sexual encounters?

Let's get the best information to you first before you go joining the sister hood.  :-)

I must add that my other partners said they had recently got tested also prior to intercourse, but I feel like someone was lying about their results or something. My ex and I was working on getting back together, I know its not happening now. I know i can't focus on that but its hard because he was the one. I've read alot of information but it doesn't ease the fact that I could have gave it to him and now we will never speak again even if he learns that it very common, he kept asking me where did it come from? I explained what I read but that wasn't good enough. I told him yesterday after posting my first question to try and explain to him better but I couldn't hold out on telling him.

I understand that my emotions about this is more serious than the actual disease but at this moment, I don't even desire sex, a companion or any kind of relationship. I know its help groups out here but at this moment, I can only focus on myself and my two boys I do have. This ish sucks really bad.

I need to thank you for your time in this matter. And to everyone who will and has commented. Thank you so much.

I apologize, my date was wrong, I had a bad cold sore February of 2009. Never had any outbreaks. I never got tested while me and my partner was together. Once we broke up I got tested in August of 2010. He stated he got tested a few months back and nothing came up. Yes it is for Hsv2, but when my doctor office called me they said it was positive for hsv 1 my paperwork says hsv2. I was with a couple other partners this summer but always used protection and never did oral. I only performed oral on my ex and we only had unprotected sex.

I will let grace take a look at your results.

This could be a new infection or the test may have missed it.  Was your last test a Type specific igg test? Do you know if your partner has a history of cold sores?
