If its pus then it isn't a herpes lesion. Herpes lesions contain a clear fluid that will often weep.

You can in theory get a cold sore anywhere on your face. The most common areas are lips and just inside your nose close to your face. However, chin and cheek are also possible sites of outbreaks just rarer.

I think it best to keep all lesions away from your baby and covered if this is possible.

A pimple with pus will not be a herpes outbreak.

If you have an outbreak on you lips, then it is best to avoid contact of your lips to your baby. All other cuddles and tickles are fine.

As you probably realize, people shed the virus and can infect that way. The odds are that your baby boy will become infected in his lifetime. This may be from you, the father, grandparents, aunts and uncles, the little girls at school... the list goes on.

Take all reasonable precautions when you have an outbreak but otherwise don't miss out on affection. That would do more damage than HSV1 is ever likely to.
