Please help me! Is this Oral Herpes

Hello. So Firstly I want to say I am married with 2 children. I have been with my husband for 13 years and we are faithful, of that Im sure.
1 week ago I awoke to find my lip had split in my sleep. It was a very painful deep split. This was NOT a cold sore. I have never in my life had a cold sore. Throughout the week I attempted to heal this split lip. On friday I awoke to my glands in my neck hurting. that night I had body aches and by SAtuday the gum on the roof of my mouth was swollen. Sunday I went to the doctor with my husband to which I was told I had Oral herpes(coldsore virus). I have never had a single coldsore in my life and neither has my husband. The doctor basically glared at my husband and said it is contracted through close contact, so implying either I or my husband was being unfaithful. Well I know I have defintley only kissed my husband. We wanted a second opinion because the doctor could not answer any of our questions. How could this be oral herpes if I have no cold sores? (only the healing split lip) How is it possible to contract when the only person I have kissed is my husband and he has no cold sores nor has he ever had any?
So today I went to another doctor and he too says it is Oral Herpes. I dont understand this diagnosis as I have no coldsores. Just the painful swollen gums and a healing split on my lip. Lets remember it was a split lip NOT a bloody coldsore. Does this mean my husband gave it to me? As he is the only one I have kissed, I have not shared cuttlery or drinks or lip gloss or anything. ANd does that mean he is cheating on my and caught the virus? He has NO symptoms at all if it has come from him. Im so upset and distressed over this. I had a swab done asnd blood tests, but I have to wait 4 days for any results. Any ones opinion on this or help would be so great or I think I will go crazy. I truly believe my husband is faithful to me, I just dont understand how this could hapen to me.

Most adults have hsv1 orally. most of them don't get obvious cold sores to know it. You can transmit the virus to others even when obvious cold sores aren't present.  Odds are that neither of you were ever tested for herpes before to know your status.

would oral herpes showing up now for the first time in either of you mean that someone had to have cheated? no it does not.  you could've contracted it earlier and this is your first obvious cold sore or you could've recently contracted it from your partner.

so what do you do now? well usually a split lip isn't oral herpes but it can be. waiting for cultures to come back is the best you can do at this point. they do have a high false negative rate so if it's negative, and it really matters to you and/or hubby, you can both seek out type specific herpes igg blood tests as follow up.   sometimes these symptoms are due to fungal infections of the lip too and requires prescription treatment. if using a good lip moisturizer doesn't help this heal within a week, the opinion of a dermatologist wouldn't be a bad idea if your regular provider is stumped.

hope that information helps :)

Hi there....

Well, it doesn't sound like you have HS-1. I can tell by your description that you are as faithful as I am with my BF, but your description of the sore split lip indicates that unless the culture comes back positive, it's just a split lip.  I get really bad chapped lips in the fall and wintertime, and last year I did, too. I carry Chapstick around in all my pockets, purses and coats, all the bathrooms, the car...you know. Everywhere. But for me, last year, I got HS-1 and I have no idea from where. My boyfriend thinks I went around on him....! Found this out just this morning. If he doesn't believe me, then what do I have with him? Nada. I can't live under that kind of perceived deception from or by either of us.

I understand your situation completely.

I wish you luck in your tests coming back negative. But just if its a split lip, you should be fine, I would think.  Are there any bumps? are they painful when you press on them? I know a split lip can easily swell, it's happened to me. Also, an easy entrance for any virus or bacteria.

Keep posting, good luck!
