HSV-1 and HSV-2 are both herpes viruses and are biologically similar, but they are not completely alike. HSV-1 causes the majority of oral herpes infections, but can affect the genitals (not nearly as frequently though). HSV-2 causes the majority of genital herpes infections, and rarely cause oral infections. When HSV-1 affects the genitals, outbreaks and asymptomatic viral shedding are usually less frequent
what is the difference between hsv 1 and hsv 2?
Genital ulceration could have other causes - allergic reaction, irritation, another type of infection, etc, but HSV causes the majority of these lesions. The viral culture is the most accurate herpes test - if you had the culture done before your sore started healing, the results are very, very accurate. I would just wait to see what your results are and take it from there.
Good luck,
