Someone touches a cold sore then grabs a bag and you grab it right after?

Can cold sores be transmitted to hands? I ask because I went to step store and the clerk had a cold sore, it was scabbed. She was ringing me up and then touched it. I panicked cause she touched my stuff and plastic bags. Can I get herpetic whitlow that way, since my hands are really dry and always cut?

It is possible to get hsv on the finger or hand. It's called herpes whitlow. The type of exposure you had is zero risk. Even if it was an open cold sore which is a very contagious there was no real world risk. Her cold sore was scabbed over meaning it's healing and not most likely not contagious at that point. You needn't worry herpes whitlow is very rare and you were not at risk.
