Outbreaks shouldn't take weeks to heal, with or without meds.

You can try taking valtrex or acyclovir when you first notice symptoms - tingling, burning, an ache (this is different for everyone) - and it will help shorten the outbreak, but how long it does is really individual.

You may also want to talk to your doctor about going on valtrex or acyclovir daily to help prevent outbreaks. If you are getting frequent outbreaks, and they take weeks to heal, have your doctor do some testing to make sure you don't have a secondary infection, like yeast or bacterial vaginitis if you are female, or another STD.

Mine only lasted less than 48 hours what ever it was I am still waiting on results. Doctor told me out breaks last longer than that ?
