Transmission from cold sore

Hi everyone,
I hope you all are doing well. I have a quick question about potential transmission from a cold sore via oral sex. Last night my BF performed oral sex on me (I'm female) for 5-10 minutes and when we woke up this morning I noticed he had what looked like a zit on his lip. We have talked about cold sores before because I am pretty paranoid about this stuff and he told me he thinks he gets them every couple of years, but he is never sure if they are really cold sores or just patches of dry skin that he gets in other parts of his body as well. He told me he does not think the current zit or whatever it is on his lip is a cold sore.
Other possible pertinent info- I had not shaved super recently, a few days ago maybe, and I have been getting cold sores on my mouth for about 10 years now (I know this is supposed to confer some measure of immunity).
How worried do you think I should be?
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

We really cont figure odds. You either wait for a breakout or get tested. But as the saying goes if it looks like a pimple its probably a pimple. Also you can have your doctor draw blood and request it be sent to the WB testing facility in Washington state yourself. Your doctor draws the blood, sends it to a lab and the lab forwards it to washington.

Hi,
Thanks for your response! Just to clarify, I do not have any genital sores today. I am concerned because after he gave me oral sex we noticed that he might have had a cold sore (or a zit, we are not sure). I was wondering what the odds are that I contracted genital herpes from this encounter.
Also, Canada does not do herpes typing tests! :(

Hi and welcome. First of all you would not get an outbreak the very next day so you can rule out a herpes sore. But both of you should get tested for herpes via igG type specific because if he has oral hsv1 and give you oral sex, you could contract it down there.
