Transmission via oral sex

I was diagnosed with Genital Herpes (HSV 2) in September 2008 (my husband cheated on me, and this is the way I found out).  Anyway, I ended up having 4-5 outbreaks within 6 months, at which point I went on Valtrex 500mg daily.  I am still taking this daily, as well I take Lysine daily.

I have recently gotten back into the dating world (I am divorced).  The discussion of herpes in a new relationship is obviously a tough one...I am dating a man now, my question is... when we were together he started to perform oral sex on me-at which point I stopped him because I wasn't sure what the risk of transmission was.  Not to be graphic, but he was only down there for less than a minute.  I have not had an outbreak in over a year, and as I said I take Valtrex & Lysine daily.

What are the potential risks for him?  What testing if any should he have done?

can you please advise, thanks-
DR

I contracted genital herpes when I was 21.  No outbreaks until I was 54 and since then, several times a year.  I use valacyclovir 500 mg a day and/or l-lysine 1500 mg (which I am afraid has been bringing on other symptoms - nausea, stomach pains).  I've been married 30 years and my husband has NEVER contracted herpes. We've had oral sex right after an outbreak has disappeared, maybe a day or two healed.  We've never had sex during an outbreak, of course, wouldn't want to.  I don't know if this is lucky or common, him not contracting herpes.  But I hope it will in some way relieve you of this fear; however, a conversation with your new beau is necessary.  BTW my husband had herpes before we met, but he never saw signs of it again after his initial outbreak 40 years ago.

lysine doesn't do much for herpes at all. just taking it once a day is doing nothing at all. most of us get more than enough lysine in our diets naturally. you are controlling your herpes with the valtrex, no need for supplements with lysine.

this was really low risk. have you and your man talked about your herpes? has he been teted to know his own status?
