Unprotected insertive oral sex - herpes

I was sucked by a person of uncertain herpes status (no reason to suspect that this person had herpes and in fact they told me they were 100% free of all STDs). I was not wearing a condom. Well wouldn't you know that about two days later I came with a pretty serious flu that lasted three days. Of course this now has me scared. Am I at a substantial risk of having contracted herpes? If so, how long must I wait to test?

I would agree that the fact it could be a virus and it clearing up. Though your doctor thinking strep is a good sign too.

If you have nothing show up in 20 days from encounter I would say its safe to assume nothing to worry about.

Thank you Mistakeguy789. So I went the doctor, he looked down my throat, said it looked like strep, took a swab (results should be ready early next week), and prescribed Clindamycin. I am encouraged by the fact that after only three doses of this antibiotic, all of my symptoms (chills, headache, bodyache, lack of appetite) are gone and only the sore throat remains. This would lead me to believe that the infection is in fact bacterial, as the antibiotic would not have worked on a virus such as HSV. However, I do have to consider the possibility of a viral infection that was winding down anyway, making it just appear that the antibiotics were having an effect.
And as of today, six days after the sexual contact that has me worried, still no signs of pimples, sores, chancres, lesions, etc. anywhere in or around my mouth or genital area. If this continues for another week or so, do you think I can be reasonably confident of not having contracted genital herpes? Thanks again for your insight!

They would happen around the same time. Lot's of things have flu like symptoms including.. the flu :-) .  It was more then likely nothing to worry about.  Again it was a low risk.

Thank you for your response. Here's another question: If I have gotten past this flu stage without experiencing any of the other symptoms of herpes (chancres, pimples, sores, etc. in and around my penis or mouth) can I feel reasonably confident that I probably don't have anything to worry about? I'm asking because I have read that when a herpes infection causes flu-like symptoms, the other symptoms should hit at about the same time or shortly after.

Flu could have been you just getting sick.

Oral sex is a low risk for herpes.  We don't even recommend testing for it.  If you haven't had a type specific igg hsv blood test to know your own status you might want to get one.  Though please wait for 3 months after your last sexual encounter.
