Valacyclovir rebound

My story is I contracted HSV2 on the back of my left thigh in the late 1990's not sure where, but it breakout once a year during summer months one time a year. While it was annoying I didn't take anything during the late 2000's I somehow transferred it to my face (confirmed by swab). I didn't want it there so I started to take Valacyclovir it would keep breaking out every month or so I went on a daily maintenance of 500mg a day.  When ever I would miss a pill I start feeling the sensation which I felt when I was going to get an outbreak. I would keep taking it for 5 years. I wanted to stop taking it so I had read some Medical Article's online that Valtrex can rebound. I decided to try and taper off the Valtrex that's what I did and after a few weeks I was off the drug and didn't have the outbreaks on the face or leg. That was 2 years ago I have a few breakouts since but I take the valtrex then I taper off at the end. Has anyone noticed this issues with Valtrex?

Are you sure you have hsv2 on your face? I know you said it was confirmed by swab, but was it typed? You could have hsv2 on your thigh (which is genital herpes), and hsv1 on your face. I say this because if you had it for 10 or so years before getting it on your face, you'd have antibodies that would make it next to impossible for you to get hsv2 anywhere else on your body.

In any case, the type doesn't matter so much with Valtrex. There is kind of a rebound that some people experience when going off suppression. It's fairly common to get an outbreak after that.

Other than that, I'm not entirely sure what you're asking.
