What is my next step? I'm in limbo

3 months ago I got 2 small painful bumps on my vulva. I had them swabbed and the results came back negative for herpes. The swab was done a little later than they generally like to do them, so it may have given me a false negative. The nurses told me to wait until another outbreak and to come in right away.
What if I never get another outbreak? How can I know for sure I have it? Are the blood tests worth the money?
I just want to know for sure, so I can get back to having a normal life.

Yes, I get tested on a regular basis, even if I'm having protected sex. I'm the kind of person who needs that peace of mind (if you couldn't tell that already). I'm 30 and have never had an STD before. This is all very embarassing and nerve-racking for me.

the blood tests are on average 90% accurate for hsv1 and 98% accurate for hsv2 detection.  Not sure if you misunderstood what you were told or if you were told the wrong information. Make sure the testing you seek out is a type specific herpes igg blood test, not a combined herpes igg blood test.

did you also cover your other std testing bases properly when you were seen?

The nurses at the clinic said that they cost around a hundred dollars and are 95% inaccurate. I think I will still get one done, but I'm not sure it will give me the peace of mind I'm looking for. In the meantine, I've been exposing myself to as many known triggers as possible, (UV, smoking, drinking, stress) but no recurring outbreaks so far. How long before I can say I'm in the clear? I don't want to live the rest of my life as a slave to this. I am just dying for a definite answer.

you can seek out a type specific herpes igg blood test 3 months after the last time you had sex prior to symptoms.

A few more details that may influence things:
-a year and a half ago I found out a partner had lied to me about having it (through one of his exes)
-prior to the bumps, I had flu like symptoms
