Will my toddler be forever infected due to my carelessness?

I have HSV-1, and had tingling sensation on my bottom lip, which I observed was a cold sore crusted, anyways, I dropped my toddler off to daycare, and kissed him on his cheek, saying bye.  I then realized that I tried to kiss him with the left side of my lips, as opposed to the right side, but my son turned his cheek slightly, causing my whole lip to come in contact with his cheek.  Now I'm worried.  The night before, I had put Carmex on the infected area of my lip, and my son was running a fever, and crying.  I washed my hands and went to give him his medicine, and he threw his arm up, and his little finger brushed across my lip with Carmex and everything, I freaked and took a baby wipe, and wiped his hand.  Is he okay, or is he forever ruined with my carelessness?  Will he develop the virus, because of this?  Help, I'm a germ-phobe, and a freaked out parent!!!

Not to add to your anxiety but I do feel the need to point out - when you have a cold sore you shouldn't kiss him at all - not just try to not kiss him with the side with the cold sore. It's not just shedding from the actual cold sore itself but also from the oral area. "air" kisses  during cold sores , not direct skin on skin contact.

Is this type of contact likely to transmit hsv1 to your child? No.  You are worrying needlessly about this current situation.

I hate to look at it like that since I try to be super careful, I look at myself like I'm a contaminant object, and try to shield my child from my HSV-1, but like you said, if not from me, someone else will do the job.  Thanks, for your incite!!!

Practically everybody on the entire planet has HSV1. The kid would have gotten it sooner or later, if not from you, from someone at day care or later on in school from another child. This isn't worth getting your thong in a bunch about.
